And I would have nothing. In general, exclusion is of two types: non-affirming negation and negation as not being. The first is: to completely distinguish what is to be negated without involving anything else, such as "no-self." The second is: to exclude the basis of negation while excluding what is to be negated, such as "the pot is not self." Although these two do not differ in negating what is to be negated, they differ only in whether or not the basis of negation is involved. Such exclusion, in the way it exists on the thing itself, is like a tree, because there is nothing other than what is not a tree, so the tree with branches exists in a state that is not different from the tree, as explained in the section on "collection of things" and so on. This is only the basis of sound concepts, and in reality, sound cannot describe the exclusion of things as it is, as explained in the section on "describing as it is" and so on. The exclusion of mind is what excludes other things through it, that is, the object that appears in the mind that distinguishes trees and so on. The object that appears appears in a way that excludes what is not it, so merely appearing excludes other things, which the author considers to be the actual expression of sound, such as "things that exist in knowledge," and so on, which has been clearly explained. Second, although different, many things can produce one thing. The Samkhya school and others think that, like a seed, the nature that becomes the producer of a sprout is only one. How can other things like earth and water produce it? Because the power of the seed does not change with other things, it is very different. Therefore, many things produce one thing because these things have a common ability that is not different in producing one result. If it is not common, then what exists in one thing is not known to exist in other things. This is because the non-common ability to produce sprouts on the seed does not exist in other things like water, and the non-common ability on water does not exist in the seed, but they are not produced individually, but are produced by being assembled together, which is the nature of things. Therefore, the difference between seeds and things like earth, that is, their respective natures, is the cause of producing results, as has already been explained. These differences in earth and so on also have common points or main factors that are not different and are interdependent, so.

If it is thought that it arises in that way, just as seeds and the like have the ability to produce sprouts, they are mistakenly thought to be one, and are merely nominally established as general or primary. There is no mutual following relationship between them, and what appears to be a following relationship is not what produces the result, as has been said before. Therefore, when things appear in this way, because their respective non-common natures do not depend on others or are not mixed, they are distinct. Moreover, the word "འང་" includes arising and ceasing, etc., or, because the key point is that things are distinct, it is also the case when they appear. Because it appears as distinct, it is established as distinct, or, because of the reason that it appears as distinct, it becomes distinct. If it appears as distinct but is not distinct, then no distinct dharma can be established, and if that were the case, then no way of entering and exiting could be known. Therefore, what appears as distinct is itself the real entity that truly exists, and that is separated from all others that are not itself, that is, it is not mixed. It is said that it is because it can function that it also becomes cause and effect. It is also considered to be the characteristic of the unfabricated dharma itself because it is not mixed or adulterated with others. It is like how one enters after cutting off, and it is capable of obtaining the fruit of what is to be taken and abandoned, that is, it is capable of obtaining what is needed, so it is also the real object of entry for all individuals. Therefore, the mixed generality is the opposite of this, it is not a real entity, it is not mixed, it does not function as cause and effect, it has no self-characteristic, and it is not a real object of entry and exit. Third, even if the causes are distinct, it is not the case that one produces everything. The Samkhyas and others say: All causes and non-causes are very distinct, similarly, it is unreasonable that seeds, soil, water, etc. can produce sprouts, while fire-drills, fire-drill bases, etc. cannot, because they are very distinct, similarly, that cause would produce all fruits other than itself. If you say that, then, Samkhyas, how do you think that all causes are of the nature of one principal, without difference, without distinction, but one cause does not accomplish all fruits, similarly, Buddhists also think that all things that are causes and non-causes are distinct and without difference in their own nature.
