By way of exclusion, some aspects of things are understood. This means that, the meaning just mentioned, the school of Dignāga, with the sound of "tree," by way of excluding from others, some aspects of external objects, that is, the excluding part separated from its own characteristics, understood from the category, relying on the universal concept, clinging to a single appearance, understanding or recognizing the exclusion of things, thereby excellently explaining that the exclusion of others is the real object of sound, that is, by way of exclusion, the sound makes the difference or special dharma of things understood. It is not based on exclusion to hold the self-characteristics of things with exclusion, and the doubt about the meaning of this scripture has also been eliminated. Also, the second scripture says: Sound is from other things Excluding, and declares the things that are distinguished. This also means that, in this exclusion, there is not even a little bit of its own nature established separately from the excluded things, but from the sounds of vases, etc., in the realm of discrimination, in the way that the appearance of the vase is mixed with discrimination, recognizing or appearing the object itself, and also understanding the exclusion from non-vase in meaning, this is called exclusion, in this way, from things like the general appearance of other things, distinguished by some exclusions different from the excluded things, there is nothing else, only the name of exclusion is applied to the non-things that are cut off from it. Therefore, the meaning of being distinguished by exclusion is not that exclusion and the one with exclusion are established in meaning like a person and a staff, but from the perspective that one does not exist in the other, therefore understanding one means understanding the other in meaning, that's all, it is called distinction, not that there is a difference in meaning in the way of the basis of distinction and the dharma of distinction. The third scripture is: Sound eliminates other things and states its own meaning. In this way, with the sound of "tree," cutting off non-tree, and the sound of establishing tree, it is not also showing that the two are different realms, tree and non-tree do not exist in each other, so because they exist in mutual exclusion, there is no statement of heterogeneity, the sound of tree cuts off non-tree, that's all, that is, it is established as the tree itself, and there is no difference.

Therefore, this exclusion (ldog pa) does not have its own nature or entity at all, it is merely the negative aspect of eliminating what is other. Even so, due to the power of language, it seems as if the complete severance of its own nature has been established, and the influence of being thrown makes it seem as if it possesses an entity, which is only misled by erroneous consciousness and is not actually established. For that very reason, this exclusion is not truly existent, that is, as an entity. Therefore, these three quotations from the teacher show that the real object expressed by language is the exclusion of others, and the so-called exclusion of others does not mean that the exclusion, which is different from the entity with exclusion, is shown as an entity, nor does it mean that the language object distinguished by it is considered an entity. Other than that, if one thinks that exclusion itself is an entity, it is unreasonable because it is harmed by reasoning. For example, the entity of agarwood, its exclusion does not become an entity, because the entity is self-characterized and exists in meaning. And the different exclusion on top of it is only an imputed existence, not an existent entity, because it is a part of negation. The reason for this is that it can be said that this agarwood is different or other than other things that are not it, such as iron. If this agarwood is not said to be different from what is not it, then the agarwood itself will become not agarwood, like iron and so on. Therefore, if one does not say or think that this tree is different from what is not a tree, then that tree will become not a tree, because it has not returned from what is not a tree. If it is said that this tree is different from what is not a tree, but its difference itself becomes an entity, then, is the difference from what is not a tree on top of the fir tree the fir tree itself? Or is it an entity that has become different from the fir tree? If it is the former, because returning from what is not a tree is the entity of the fir tree. Then other sandalwood and so on will become not trees, because it is not the entity of the fir tree. If it is the latter, even if the difference from what is not a tree on top of the fir tree can exist as an entity, the entity of the fir tree has not returned from what is not a tree, or is not different from what is not a tree, so the fir tree will become not a tree. Therefore, it is also unreasonable to say that the entity of the fir tree is different from what is not a tree. If it is thought that the non-self-nature of it is eliminated in meaning,
