is the cause, so there is no arguing. Second, all negative signs are included in not seeing, the aspect of the sign is established by experience, and it is not reasonable otherwise. First, there are three parts: brief explanation, detailed explanation, and summary. First, it is unreasonable to establish the absence of a pot by the sign of not seeing. Not seeing means merely that the mind of seeing has not arisen, and if things can be negated by just that, then in sleep and closing the eyes, etc., the mind of seeing nearby objects will not arise, which would also lead to negation, thus making the valid cognition wrong, and the establishment of what is to be measured would be too extreme. If the unobserved object is said to be non-existent, then how can it be directly perceived, since there is no sense consciousness involved in non-existence? If it cannot be established by direct perception, then it is impossible to establish it even by setting up countless signs, someone says. This is neither a completely non-existent thing grasped by direct perception, nor is it merely a reversal of the seer, but rather the non-existence is established by direct perception. How is it established? One directly perceives an object, such as a direction, that is devoid of the object to be negated, such as fire, and experiences it in that way through self-awareness. From this, a conceptual mind arises that judges the meaning of existence or non-existence, saying, "This direction is directly perceived in this way," or "Fire is not seen in this direction." When an object devoid of the object to be negated is seen, it is actually established that the object to be negated is not seen. Second, there are two parts: if you see and experience, then the meaning is accomplished; this is not different from the experience of having a First, when experiencing anything, from the experience of the special quality that is not mixed with the object to be negated, one can also understand that all things are special qualities that are devoid of those things. For example, the pillar itself abides in a state of being devoid of cloth. When one experiences the special quality of not being mixed with cloth in this way, one can also see that there is no cloth on the pillar, and there is no other way to see it. Similarly, any place that is devoid of fire is the same. Experiencing the nature of being unmixed or devoid, this self-awareness is the cause of the mind that grasps that these things are unmixed and that one is devoid of the other, just as experiencing that a pillar and a pot are different leads to the belief that a pot is not seen on the pillar. Therefore, any object to be negated

The distinction of different minds with the aspect of being separate is established by the self-awareness of the mind that experiences it in that way, and it arises solely from direct experience. Those minds that arise as different also establish the object to be measured of that object-possessor as separate and not separate. For example, because whiteness is not perceived as separate from a conch shell, but blackness is seen as separate, it is established that a conch shell has the color white and does not have black. In this way, by perceiving one thing, the object to be negated that is absent from it is not perceived, and if it is not established from itself, then this non-perception cannot be established by direct experience, so its means of proof will become endless, and therefore no phenomena will be established as different. For example, the non-perception of woolen cloth on a vase cannot be established by direct perception, and no matter how the means of proof is arranged, it is impossible not to need to establish it, so the absence of woolen cloth cannot be established. If that is not established, then the difference between the vase and the woolen cloth cannot be established either. Secondly, the non-perception or elimination of another phenomenon that is absent from it, which is experienced directly with the distinction of being separate, without the nature of any phenomenon being mixed with the object to be negated, is not that its own entity exists elsewhere, so this non-perception, which is called the non-perception of the object to be negated, is also not merely perceiving the absence of the object to be negated, but is perceiving another object that is distinct from the object to be negated, that is, unmixed. Thirdly, therefore, this non-perception is understood from the direct realization of the object itself that is separate from the object to be negated, so it does not depend on signs, but merely seeing the non-perception itself is the place where its term is applied. Just as the term of existence is applied from merely seeing, there is no need to separately perceive the meaning of non-perception other than seeing the one with distinction. Therefore, even if non-perception is made a sign, it makes one understand the establishment or term of the absence of that object to be negated. If what is visible is not perceived, then there is no need to doubt the application of the term of absence. Secondly, if non-perception is not established by experience, then the absence itself of whatever object there is, such as a vase, must be understood from establishing non-perception as a sign. And the non-perception itself must also be established by other signs, so the means of proof of non-perception will become endless. Any sign
