Just as examining the differences in conceptualization. Because I am not visible, in the differences of other living bodies, there is nothing seen with that nature, which is not present in vases and so on, so what is the reason for this special reason? If it is said that because meat-eaters have reached the end of the kalpa, there are meat-eaters in my house, but not in yours, then it is like merely making a vow, without certainty that it has a true meaning. Like this, I, for what basis does not exist or contradict, has never been known by valid cognition, so how can its pervasion or certainty of contradicting self and life exist for vases and so on? It is just words. Like this, according to the sect that believes in the existence of self, because I am not actually visible, there is no choice but to prove it through inference, but it is impossible to establish it through inference, because the reasoning of the power of things has already negated it. Second, if I am made the subject, there is no homogeneity. If it is made the probandum, there is no pervasion. First, because the nature of the self, which is to be proven as existing and not existing on what basis, has not been determined, there is no way that any valid reason can exist for it, because a true reason with three characteristics can never be found. For example, because some differences in things such as life and movement are seen, it is said that this exists and that does not exist, and if that is the case, I also exist in some places and am seen not to exist in some places, then the very fact that I exist in some places and do not exist in some places will be recognized. But I can never be seen at any time or place, so how is it reasonable to think about existing and not existing on what basis? It is meaningless. Therefore, if I am made the subject, no matter what sign is established, because the basis of the subject has not been established, the sign cannot be established, just like establishing a sign by taking the son of a barren woman as the subject. Second, if it does not exist, then the contradiction of non-existence is not established. If it exists, then the consequence of existence does not exist. First, because I contradict, life does not contradict. If it is proven to be, then it is too much. First, regarding the statement that because I contradict, life contradicts, as mentioned above. The logician says: If that is the case, the living body is the subject. It does not possess life, because there is no self. Like a vase. The reason for issuing such an excessive inference is that the cause of life is not me, but something else. What is it? What is the cause of intelligence and effort, etc.? There is none.

The proponent argues that, for example, objects such as vases do not have visible characteristics such as life. Therefore, if the body also lacks factors such as intelligence, then the living body should not have the result of life, just like a corpse. Therefore, such an irrelevant inference is like shooting an arrow in a dream. Second, if, as Buddhists believe, both the living body and the vase are equally without self, because there is some similarity in this respect, even if there are differences in other aspects, such as the presence or absence of intelligence, the absence of life is the same. If one thinks this way, then both the body and the vase are equally measurable, so why can't it be inferred that vases and other things also have a self? If one infers other things with such an irrelevant sign, it would be too far-fetched. If the opponent says that our treatises do not say that vases have a self, so we do not think so. Then, if the reasoning you use to refute Buddhists is valid, then this must also be proven by valid cognition. And valid cognition is the basis of all views. Without valid cognition, how can one distinguish between things and non-things merely by personal will? Mere will is not important; what is important is valid cognition. If it is proven by valid cognition, then there is no freedom not to accept it, so it must be admitted. Third, life, opening and closing the eyes, movement of the lips, etc., are all produced from one's own memory, desire, and the effort of the self and mind. And these memories, etc., are produced from objects, senses, and intelligence. These objects, etc., are also produced from similar previous factors in a dependent manner, in the case of becoming mutual co-operative causes. For example, seeing or smelling something sour will produce memories and desires for sourness, leading to increased salivation; physical strength, intelligence, and effort will lead to breathing, opening and closing the eyes, etc. These memories, etc., are produced from the collection of the three factors of object, sense, and intelligence, thereby recalling past events and generating desires and efforts for others. The senses, such as the eyes, are produced from similar previous factors and are the conditions for the arising of consciousness. Attention is also a condition for other knowledge and is a co-operative cause of knowledge, thereby enabling the senses to exist well, and so on. Thus.
