If all faults related to the sign, such as contradiction, uncertainty, and non-establishment, must become faults of the pledge, then the faults of one's own side do not depend on the limbs of other arguments, which has already been explained. Secondly, like wanting to prove that sound is permanent with the sign of being made, even if the proven does not coexist with it, does that sign not establish the proven? Or is that sign not established as a proof, so it is a fault of the sign, not a fault of the pledge. Secondly, examining that reasoning, those are not reasonable as reasoning. Saying that is flawed. First, the object and its reason, two. First, because everything is impermanent, if it is assumed that everything is impermanent, and it has the limb of reasoning that is the proof, in the way that the property of the subject is established on the subject sound, if the statement of the syllogism is made in that way, then if it is assumed that everything is impermanent, the sound being permanent will become contradictory, and it is impossible to say it. Even so, if this must be the reasoning and the sound being permanent is the pledge, then in this syllogism, what other meaning can be seen other than merely showing the nature of the sign on one side of the dissimilar example? There is nothing. Moreover, even those that appear to be reasoning must be regarded as related in delusion, and if sound is also regarded as belonging to the category of everything impermanent, then it is not appropriate to pledge that it is permanent. Second, it must change as just said, because of that reason, the word "everything" speaks of the difference or characteristic of the object to be spoken of, and sound is permanent, thus specifically pointing out other dharmas, and then the general༷ word of the word "everything" also follows after it, so saying that everything is impermanent is not considered pervasive on the subject sound, if so, after admitting that the characteristic sound is permanent, what result is there in the general༷ word of everything impermanent following after it? It's like the words of a madman. Then, is thinking that my mother is a prostitute, etc., the same as that? Although those contradict their own words, if they are the same as that, the sound being permanent must also be said to be impermanent, what is the use of establishing it as reasoning? Permanence and impermanence are determined to be directly contradictory, even if they are said directly like that, there is no result.

It is merely a commitment. Arguing in this way, the reason that "everything is impermanent" does not eliminate the commitment, because if the permanence of sound is eliminated, then the impermanence of sound abiding in its own characteristic itself can eliminate permanence, as stated by the teacher Dignāga. When it is determined by inference that sound is impermanent, then it can eliminate permanence. Second, expressing it in this way is flawed, and one must establish the thing and its rationality. First, when saying "everything," other things such as vases are taken from outside of sound, and it is considered that the impermanence that contradicts the attribute of permanence of sound applies to these things. Therefore, saying "sound is everything impermanent" actually only expresses other things. For example, it is like saying "give a silk cloth to the son of the Brahmin Kunda" and then saying "give yogurt to the Brahmins." Even so, because the word of the general characteristic "everything" does not negate its own particularity—sound—but only expresses it generally, such an expression is not reasonable, it is a foolish and unrelated statement. Second, after eliminating doubts, establish rationality and point out the faults that exist in different views. First, in this way, it is not certain that the word of the general characteristic negates the difference in all cases, because sometimes it is seen that someone asks "is this only a acacia tree?" and then answers "no." For example, due to the questioner's intention, sometimes it is said that the acacia tree itself is not a tree, because after grasping the general characteristic of tree, it is thought that "tree" is not only acacia tree, but also includes fir trees, etc., just like saying "conditioned phenomena are not vases." Even if it is expressed in this way, it will not be said that the acacia tree is not a tree, nor will it be said that the vase is not a conditioned phenomenon. Similarly, even if it is said that "everything is not sound," this word of the general characteristic "everything" will prevent the listener from understanding it as referring only to sound, even if the final meaning is "only sound is not everything," but merely this difference does not negate the general characteristic, because sound is not everything, or not completely independent of everything, but is included in it. If it is not included in it, then for the difference that is considered "everything," such as vases, etc., if one aspect of the general characteristic—sound—is not included in the word "everything," then the word "everything" will also not be included in it.
