If those are not, if one can understand well through that word, then it is inferring from the word. Moreover, if that expressed meaning does not exist, then meaningful language will not arise, therefore it is a sign of the result that arises depending on that. If it is not an unfailing word, then it is not necessarily so. The expressing words, if they do not have the expressed meaning, will not arise, this has been thoroughly proven. What is known in the world is the sign of nature, for example, the subject—the moon with a rabbit, is universally known as the moon, like this, abiding in the nature of being able to be named, and having already been named, this is also the nature of that subject. Existing in such a way is like the heat of fire. Moreover, this so-called "fame," if it contradicts all the fame in the world, it does not mean that it becomes contradictory to fame. Because in the world, for purity and impurity, permanence and impermanence, etc., there are various kinds of fame, but merely because of these, it does not harm the realm of reason. However, if one considers the world itself to examine the terms of the world, then no matter how one examines the ways of terms that are universally known in the world, reason cannot change it, this is a harmless term or an immovable term, if it contradicts this, it will be harmed by fame, including examples, it will be explained in detail below. Secondly, trust, fame, and direct perception, these three. First, the scriptures and one's own words are summarized and explained. The specifics of refuting with scriptures are explained. First, reason, necessity, and example, these three. First, among the four ways of refuting in this way, reality and inference have already been explained in detail, therefore, here, only the refutation with the other three ways is explained. First, in refuting with commitment, there are two kinds of words, one's own words and the words of the scriptures, but in the Compendium, the reason for summarizing the refutation with trust into one aspect is: any word is desired to be expressed as a measurer and indicator through the way of being completely certain about the meaning to be expressed. This is because, whether it is the words of the proponent in the case or the words of other treatise makers, they equally believe in having true meaning. Therefore, the proponent's own words and the words of the treatise are both said to be refuted by trust, because in the case of reality, these two have the same ability, and due to trust, they are also the same in terms of being a establisher. If they contradict, one's own stand

Obstructing half of what is to be established is also the same, so eliminating it is only due to the power of admission, because the meaning is the same. Second, the necessity is: if the speaker does not consider himself to be the measure for speaking that meaning truthfully, then the statement of establishing "this matter is so" will not appear, just as when others ask, he will say "I do not know." Similarly, if one does not rely on trust in the treatise, then one will not even speculate on the meaning of the famous scriptural statements in the treatise, thinking, "It is said so from there, so it is so." Even if one establishes it oneself, or if it is said in the treatise and thus established, it is the same that the statement appears due to the power of trust. Therefore, just as contradicting one's own words obstructs one's own thesis, admitting a treatise and contradicting it, the context of that treatise harms one's own subject or basis of establishment. To clarify this point, the treatise's elimination is spoken together with one's own words, because if there is no power of reality, even if it is considered scripture, there is no reason why it is more powerful than one's own words, to know that it is only a statement of trust that the admitter believes to be true. Third, taking scripture as proof due to the power of trust is the same as the way one's own words appear, so it is shown that the examples for these two are also the same, such as "there is no measure for the meaning of what can be measured." If asked, how does this serve as an example? The answer is: if there are no measures for measuring what is to be measured without error, then the treatise and one's own words cannot show what is to be measured, because that statement cannot show the meaning without error, because it is admitted that there is generally no measure that does not deceive oneself. Even so, this example is a clear example, a real example, for eliminating by contradicting one's own words, and for scripture, it only represents a part, as just said. If asked, what is the real example of that scriptural elimination? The answer is: such as admitting the scriptures that assert past and future lives and cause and effect, and then believing that giving and other virtuous deeds in the future will not accomplish happiness, that is, they are not the means of accomplishing happiness, etc.
