These alone are sufficient to indicate that the thesis is without fault, because it is impossible for any of the five things to be excluded to be a thesis that a learned opponent would accept as a thesis to be proven. Why is that? For example, a vow that has been refuted by valid cognition, such as "sound is something that can be seen by the eye," cannot be accepted as a thesis to be proven because there is direct harm. As for the remaining four cases, such as what has already been proven, it is because they do not have the definition of a thesis. Because it is impossible to prove again with a sign what has already been proven, and if what is not the scope of the power of the sign in question is the thesis to be proven, then it is too extreme; for the object for which the proof is set up, even if it is not explicitly stated, it will be regarded as the thesis to be proven, but if the non-intentional object is regarded as the thesis to be proven, then it is meaningless; if the current non-intentional object is taken as the object of all the teachings, then because it is difficult to establish the thesis to be proven by setting up a sign of reality, these four things to be excluded do not have the definition of being a thesis, so the opponent will not accept them as a thesis to be proven. Therefore, although five cases are mentioned in order to prevent the opponent from having doubts due to confusion, in reality there is only one key point here, which is to explain in detail, just like the example of "understanding by saying the beginning," in general, all the words of the teachings exist in this way of being either detailed or concise, and in various ways. In particular, for those who are ignorant and cling to words, even for one definition, there is a need for a great many distinctions, just like the six definitions of relations and the six valid cognitions established by outsiders, but in the end they are not completed. Second, refuting the argument: The statement in the "Gate of Reasoning" that "accepting as a thesis to be proven" or "desire" means that for the learned, in terms of meaning, if it is proven by a sign in this way, then for the object to be shown, because it is the object of wanting to infer, there is no establishment or exclusion, and even if it has all four distinctions that the opponent himself can understand. But if the word "desire" can show its distinctions, then it is not necessary to explain it in the summary; if it is necessary to explain it, then in the "Gate of Reasoning" there will also be the doubt of "Is the unestablished example and sign also a thesis to be proven?" Because this definition cannot eliminate this doubt, is it necessary to add the particle "only"? If you ask this, then add the words "oneself" etc. in the summary,

If the expression of the word "desired" definitely grasps the meaning of only what is to be established, then, even if the understanding is true, in the Collected Topics, the thing to be shown, because there is no distinction made by the three times, and because those words are related, even if it is not considered to be established now, but what is to be established in the future, such as the unestablished subject-property, is also to be established? Such a doubt will arise. For example, when saying "Devadatta will come, it should be watched," it is not necessarily understood as merely "Devadatta's coming is what should be watched," but like saying "Devadatta is now coming, it should be watched," there is no difference between established and excluded, as long as oneself is the object of desire, from that time on it is what is to be established, but there will be doubt whether it will become what is to be established from now on. Therefore, even if it becomes what is to be established at another time, in the future, but at that time it is the means of proof of the present, therefore, in order to cut off the definition of what is to be established from being too broad, the word "only" is explained. For example, if it is written "Sound is impermanent, because it is produced," then, in order to answer the unestablished subject-property, although it is necessary to say "because it is produced," to be what is to be established, but when establishing the fundamental reason, it is like that is not what is to be established. Then, if it is thought that there is no need to distinguish in reasoning either, then, 伊षु (Tibetan, Devanagari, IAST, literal meaning) is the root of desire, adding the suffix ཀྟ་, u is connected to the following, ཀ is a sign, meaning later, ཥ་ is transformed into ཏ་ཊ་ on this side, thus ཨིཥྚ་ (Tibetan, Devanagari, IAST, literal meaning) is derived. Like this, the root of desire adding the suffix ཀྟ་, here in the Collected Topics, does not become a component that can cut off the meaning of what is to be established in the future, but because of the accompaniment of words, just as what was said before. In reasoning, for the words that have become desires, because the distinction has the ability of self-mastery, it has become a component that can be understood, just like saying "Devadatta has come." Therefore, that word does not need to add a word particle that can prevent the unestablished reason, etc., from becoming what is to be established. At this time, although the affirmative and negative words are reversed, and there are different changes, the way of explaining the meaning is the same, this is obvious. Words like "like" cannot express the usage of the extremely famous dharma and one's own desires, etc., so it should not be explained as other meanings either. And the word "also" is one's own.
