If one's own nature is unclear, like a vase or other object, then it will never have the ability to illuminate other things. In short, is this mere experience of white and other phenomena, which appear undeniably clear to the mind, the very essence of the mind's clarity? Or, if one thinks that the illuminator, knowledge, exists within, separate from this, and the object to be illuminated exists outside, then how can that object, not included in this clear appearance, be clear and not manifest? If one abandons the experience of clear manifestation of white and so on, how can the illuminator residing within illuminate white and so on? Since it does not illuminate the white itself, all clear appearances of subject and object will disappear. If this experience of clear appearance is neither subject nor object, then it is like denying the very clear appearance itself, and thinking that an impossible object and subject are experienced by something else, like holding a lamp in one's hand and hoping that darkness will be illuminated, which is utterly perverse. Therefore, this clear appearance of white and so on is the very clarity of knowledge. If it were not clear, it would be like admitting that something is clear yet not clear, and therefore all beings would become completely unclear. Since it is clear and yet appears as clear, if there were another knowledge residing within that illuminates objects, and that knowledge also needs to be illuminated by another subsequent knowledge, and so on, then there would be an infinite regress of illumination, like holding a lamp in one's hand and searching for another illuminator for the lamp, which is extremely absurd. Therefore, the self-luminosity of knowledge is established by this mere direct experience of the clear appearance of whatever and however an object is. Even if it appears as subject and object, the so-called different objects and illuminators, and seeing others but not oneself, are merely imputations of delusion and have no meaning whatsoever. Know that this mere clear appearance arising in the mind exists only within the scope of what each individual can know for themselves. Secondly, regarding things and

Refuting the distinctions of answers. First, without self-awareness, there would only be a general mind, and it would not be possible to distinguish and grasp this mind as the experiencer and that as the experienced object. Why? Because if the mind, which is the subject of experience, does not have a knowing connection with the seen object, such as blue, then how can that object distinguish it and make it the subject of experience? It is absolutely impossible. Why is there no knowing connection? Because according to your view, when either the object or the subject is cognized, only that one is known, and the second, the seeing or knowing of the other, does not exist. The above pervasion is also established, because when two dharmas with a connection are seen as connected, it is certain that this sees this, otherwise it is impossible. The object and the subject exist simultaneously, like fire and smoke, and it is impossible to see them sequentially, and it is also impossible to see both simultaneously. Therefore, the certainty of the object and the subject, this undeniable fact that arises from its own power, although it arises from the power of self-awareness, denying it is simply denying direct perception. Second, if the appearance is the same, then self-awareness is established. If the appearance is not the same, it is not established either. First, it is possible to determine that this consciousness is the subject of this object. If the previous consciousness saw the object, then the subsequent consciousness seen by another mind relies on being truly the same as that object to say that this sees this. If the appearance of blue is not remembered when remembering blue, then sameness cannot be established. Because seeing this as the same as blue, the previous apprehension of blue is established as the nature of self-awareness with a second mode. Or, after the previous apprehension of blue has ceased, if this consciousness is the same as the previous one and becomes its illuminator, then that mind is established as self-illuminating or self-aware, because even without another object of illumination, there is illumination. If even if it is the same, it does not know its own object, then how can it know the nature of other things such as blue? If there is no experience of blue etc., and it is merely born similar to blue, then it is merely similar, and the experience of the object has already been completely refuted before. Two
