If asked, why do things near appear in this manifestation? If the answer is: because they exist, but have become thin. Then, the manifestation is also just as thin, so the manifestation of things near will not become clearer than things far away. Furthermore, even if the obstructing dust between a distant object and the senses is thick, the dust of manifestation is also equally thick, not thin, so there will be no difference in clarity between near and far objects. Moreover, if manifestation is clear when near, then the manifestation of eyelids etc., which are very close to the eyes, should be very clear, so the very near object should also appear very clear, but this is not the case, so it is unreasonable. Second, refuting the answer based on karma: If it is said that becoming clear or unclear is because of the invisible, that is, relying on the previous karma of virtue and non-virtue, causing the object itself to appear in different forms in the continuum of moments. Then, when observers are simultaneously at various distances, seeing various clear or unclear manifestations of the same object, do these objects mutually obscure each other or not? If the answer is that they obscure. Then, that obscuration will in turn obscure the manifestation that is now appearing, and if so, then all observers at various distances will see only that one obscuring object. If these karma-formed objects do not mutually obscure each other, then all observers at various distances should simultaneously see the nature of clarity and unclarity, but this is impossible. If it is said that even though they exist simultaneously, they are not seen, because the invisible karma obscures one of them, and only one appears. Then, these karma-formed objects exist at the same time, but one of them is made invisible by karma, which is like a child's game. Whether such objects are seen or not, there is no benefit or harm to the observer, so how can the observer experience the ripening of happiness and suffering for this invisible thing that has no name of virtue or non-virtue?
