Even if you doubt whether, in the absence of an image, there will be attachment to direct encounter. But now, when past things that do not exist on the object are clung to, the appearance of object and subject as undeniable proves the two ways of apprehending and apprehended aspects, and the self-awareness established thereby. Because if it does not have an apprehended aspect, it will lead to clinging to past things that are directly encountered; if there is no self-awareness, it will lead to not having experienced such a mind. Second, refuting the attachment to the meaning of the genus by memory. Refuting the attachment to non-associated formations. Refuting the attachment to external self-characteristics. First, the Vaisheshikas and others say: Even if the past thing is clear, since its general characteristic has not disappeared, the object of memory is the general characteristic, not the image of consciousness itself. If you say so, because in the object of remembering the past, blue and other colors and shapes appear differently, it should not be thought that the genus that is not associated with different dharmas such as color is the object of the past memory consciousness, which is the object to be taken. Furthermore, that genus is either impermanent or permanent, if it is considered impermanent, then it will not become a genus that follows all the different manifestations of time, because it arises from a cause and immediately destroys at that time; if it is permanent, then how can it be the cause of producing consciousness? Because permanence cannot function sequentially or simultaneously, this has been proven many times. Second, if it is said that the object of past memory is name and characteristic, that is, the thing of non-associated formation, then if name etc. are said, then "explainer" etc., has already been refuted before. Third, establishing that the object to be taken is not a self-characteristic. Establishing that the image is not other than consciousness. First, establishing the image of things and the experience arising from them. First, the way in which memory clings to past things is not because external things exist or are close as objective conditions, because it does not depend on external things, but is only related to inner desires. Whenever an effort is made to focus on past things, it will immediately appear that way, therefore, the ability of the objective condition to benefit this consciousness has not been established, because it does not change with the existence or non-existence of things, so it is not focused on external things. Second, even if the past memory is image-bearing, but when initially clinging to the self-characteristics of form etc.

If it is said to be non-conceptual and without aspects, then this kind of consciousness that holds the unclear aspect of past things is the memory of that past. Moreover, this arises from previously experiencing its own characteristic. If the sense consciousness that previously grasped its own characteristic is also empty of the aspect of things or without aspects, then how can the memory of the person who remembers past things now be endowed with the aspect of that object? You believe that consciousness cannot experience its own aspect from experiencing objects. And this memory of remembering past things is not an object of something other than consciousness itself. Such experience is undeniably present, so if there were no aspects before, it would be impossible to remember objects, because at the time of memory, the object that was previously grasped no longer exists. Therefore, memory does not arise solely from the power of the object itself. Thus, only from the previous object itself can the mind of memory with aspects arise now. In this way, the sense consciousness that previously experienced its own characteristic will also become endowed with aspects. If it is thought that the aspect of memory arises from the power of the object seen previously, that is, merely remembering the object experienced previously, that is not correct. If it is not the aspect of consciousness, but the naked essence of the object itself is remembered, then because it appears from the power of the previous own characteristic, it should appear clearly as before. However, the object of appearance in memory lacks the aspect of clear own characteristic, so it will not be produced from the own characteristic. If it is thought that because the own characteristic has disappeared, how could it be seen clearly? Since it has disappeared, it will not have any aspects such as shape and color, so how could a clear color and shape appear? Therefore, apart from being an aspect of mind, it is impossible to say without aspects that this is another object. Therefore, both experiencing objects and remembering objects are experiencing and remembering aspects. It is impossible to experience and remember objects nakedly. When experiencing, because there are objects, doubts can be allowed, but when remembering, how can objects be remembered nakedly when they no longer exist? If the aspect at the time of memory is not mind, but the object appears nakedly, then the object will not disappear. If analyzed, the object is unreasonable, but without analysis, merely thinking of remembering the object can establish worldly speech, so what is the use of engaging in detailed analysis?
