Because it is a false conjecture, the appearance will not change. Like the snake apprehension, for the continuum of other people, saying "there are two moons and hairs, etc. here," in some cases when the eyes are unclear and trusting, etc., the appearance should stop. In the dark and suspicious place where there are snakes, showing ropes similar to coiled shapes, or even if not showing, saying "there is a snake here," just like the arising of snake apprehension. Furthermore, conjecture depends on what was seen before, so if hairs, etc. are also conjectured there, then it becomes dependent on remembering seeing hairs, etc. before. Before not seeing it before, although not conjecturing, if there is a problem with the eyes, just opening the eyes will appear, without relying on what was seen before. If it depends, then the initial hair will never be apprehended, and if it is a confused with discrimination, then there is only discrimination there, and it will not become an appearance that appears completely clear. The second case is that even with discrimination, there will be no lack of clear appearance, just like dreaming. If you think so, the appearance in a dream is not an appearance with discrimination, because whether sleeping or waking, any consciousness that has a clear appearance of the object is non-discriminating. Whether awake or dreaming, if it does not appear so clearly, then it is discrimination. The third is the conclusion, because the appearing object is direct perception, therefore the appearance of two moons, etc., even without discrimination, obstructs being direct perception, because it deceives the object to be entered.

Those distinctions apply to the occasion. (This is) the refutation of the arguments therein. First, in the Sutra on Pramana it says: 'For the sake of understanding together with action, the result itself is the measurer, it is established as valid cognition, and inaction is not either.' As it is said, these valid cognitions and results are considered by outsiders to be the cause and effect of the producer and the produced, which is never reasonable. In our own system, it is merely a cause and effect of establishment. In this regard, without investigation, in accordance with worldly convention, the three of valid cognition, result, and object of measurement are established; and in accordance with the reality of things, after investigation, like the treatises, these three are established, of these two, the first is: from the nature of the three of agent, object, and action, these three are established, that is, the object to be understood or the object to be acted upon, such as form, etc., is the object of measurement. The understander is the appearance of the nature of form, etc., in the mind, which is the measurer, the valid cognition, which is called similar to the meaning in this context. That subject knows the object through the action of knowing, which is called knowing the meaning, that is the result of valid cognition, or the result of valid cognition is knowing the meaning, which is generally known and established. Thus, the classification of the three of agent, object, and action is generally explained. For example, in the world, whatever action is said to be accomplished by this thing, that is, it is established as the accomplisher, which is determined by the mutual dependence of the action and the agent at that time, and not all the actions of that agent are established as the actions of that time. For those accomplishers who need those actions, it is not necessary to consider them as the agents of that time. From the aspect of what becomes the agent of that time from which an uninterrupted result arises, or from what cause of establishment what result to be established is accomplished, that agent is established as the accomplisher of that action or result, otherwise all classifications will be confused. Furthermore, if one agent can accomplish all objects, then everything will be accomplished everywhere. If one object needs all accomplishers, then none will be accomplished. Therefore, by distinguishing through their respective aspects, the uncommon accomplisher and the to-be-accomplished are named. Second, measure from similarity to meaning.

It understands what is to be done. Others cannot do that. Therefore, they are the accomplisher. First, the consciousness similar to the meaning is the valid cognition that distinguishes this as this meaning, how is it similar? That is, knowing that the meaning is like this, only the amount experienced by the consciousness itself is the nature of being similar to the meaning, but not in other ways. Such unerring consciousness is the function of any object-possessor, or the objects to be measured are distinguished as this and like this for each different one, and the one who establishes it as such becomes its nature. For example, the blue object to be measured, the blue-perceiving eye consciousness is a valid cognition. Second, the Vaisheshikas and others say that the meaning is distinguished by the power of the difference between the encounter and non-encounter of the cause organ and the clarity and non-clarity, but that is not the case. If the organ encounters any object, if it is not the nature or essence of consciousness, and becomes the appearance of that object, then even if the cause organ and others have differences of similarity and dissimilarity, only by that, the function of difference or the distinction of the difference of the object to be measured cannot be obtained, or if there is none, this cause is not the one who determines the difference between this and this for each meaning, except for one's own mind, only by the cause of the mind, making a difference is never possible. Third, others besides the meaning-similar one cannot decide or establish that meaning as this, therefore, the nature of the appearance of this consciousness, by what difference, this consciousness is the one who understands the meaning of this object, what is the function or object to be measured of that meaning-appearing or meaning-similar one, that is determined, so it becomes the one who understands. Therefore, it is established as the valid cognition of the accomplisher of that which is to be done. If it is said that what appears as the meaning is not the real meaning, why is it called meaning-similar? Because the appearance of that arises in consciousness from the proximity of the meaning, the difference that has never existed before is the measurer of the meaning, so it is consciousness. Because of how the aspect of the meaning is taken, it is named as being similar to the meaning, if there is no arising of consciousness that is only similar to the meaning, then even if the meaning is close, what difference does the object make to the consciousness, then it will become that nothing has been done. Thus, consciousness cannot become the establisher of the object, when the blue-taking has not arisen, then this object is blue.
