And it is not reasonable to hold both happiness and suffering at the same time. Since experiencing blue is experiencing blue itself, not experiencing happiness and so on other than blue. Because these two have different forms, like experiencing happiness and suffering. Second, the nature of external blue and so on is the same as happiness and so on, just like not exceeding water, so when holding blue and so on, just holding it pervades holding its happiness and so on, so the root consciousness will hold the object and happiness simultaneously. If you think so, it is not right, for anything that appears as different, how can what is held by the mind that is not confused be not different? Just like a pillar and a vase. Forms and so on that appear as shapes and colors, and feelings that appear as comfort and pain, are also different because they are not distinguished by wisdom that is not confused, so they are different, and these two are not one. Even if they are distinguished, if they become one, then the wise man and matter will also become one. So, aren't the two that appear as the object and the subject considered to be one? Because that is a false appearance, so the appearance of the external object that is different from consciousness is not considered ultimate. And you think that both the external object and happiness are ultimate, so they are not the same. We also think that there are only three qualities ultimately. If you think so, how can happiness and suffering, these contradictory things, become one? They will not become one, so in the end, a single nature that has not been falsified cannot be found. Second, it is unreasonable for happiness and so on to be external, raising objections and Answering the refutation. First, if happiness and so on only exist in the external object, then the external object itself has no difference, but due to the difference of the inner mind's habits, from the same thing, the difference between happiness and complete suffering will not arise in the mind of the person, everything should be produced by the same external object without large or small happiness and so on, but due to the difference of inner habits, various things will be seen, so it is unreasonable for happiness to exist in the external object. Second, if the inner mind is like the two sides of a mirror, it is also the nature of happiness and so on, so due to habits, the happiness of the inner mind will become different, so even if the external object has no difference, it is not contradictory that there is a difference in the way happiness and so on are experienced in the mind. Happiness and so on that increase due to inner habits.

If the intention is such, then how is it understood that external objects such as form are the nature of pleasure, etc.? When experiencing pleasure, etc., it seems to be experienced by the mind, and it is impossible to experience it without relying on the mind. Moreover, pleasure, etc., are also considered to exist internally, so when experiencing them, one would think that it is internal, and one would not know that this is not internal but external pleasure. If one thinks that the soft touch, etc., produced by external objects is external pleasure, then this is also experienced internally by the mind, and one cannot experience it outside the mind, so one will never know external pleasure. If one experiences the pleasure arising from external objects, but it is mixed with internal pleasure, so it cannot be distinguished, because the types of internal and external pleasure, etc., are different, and they can be grasped and can grasp, because they are of the same type. It can be the grasped and the grasper, because even if there is pleasure in the mind, if the external soft touch is not the nature of pleasure, it will not be grasped as the nature of pleasure, just as black is not grasped as white. Similarly, if there is pleasure externally but not internally, one will not experience it oneself. If that is the case, then the conscious person will not become the grasper of all objects, because they are very different in kind from all inanimate objects, nature, changes, etc. Since the person will not become the grasper, the very fact of being the enjoyer or consumer of all changes will also be lost. The reasoning just stated also refutes the statement that if the types of internal and external pleasure are different, they will not become cause and effect, because such a reason shows that the person acknowledged by oneself is uncertain. Furthermore, according to your view, the grasped external pleasure, etc., and the grasping internal pleasure, etc., are not cause and effect, because both are similar in being without consciousness, so there is no characteristic of either the grasped or the grasper. If one thinks that the eye sense grasping form and the seed sprouting into cause and effect are uncertain, then the eye sense is the cause of the grasping consciousness, but it is not considered that the sense itself is the grasper, so it is not uncertain. The cause and effect of seed and sprout are not the grasped and the grasper, because they are material causes.
