When such an appearance exists in the realm of thought, it is designated by the term "vase." Because name and meaning are mixed and become habitual, the characteristics of the object itself, as known through the influence of the word "vase," are such that, in addition, the appearance of an external, bulging image, although not the nature of self-character, leads to mistaking the mental appearance for that very object. And such an appearance also arises from the imprints of previously experiencing such an object. Similarly, the chief one, etc., also arises from the state of experiencing other feelings such as happiness, etc., where the mind itself imputes, as previously explained. Therefore, if some of one's own school assert that, in ultimate truth, words have objects to be expressed, and that merely the state of consciousness is what is expressed by hearing the word "vase," then what aspect of the self-character of the bulging object is understood by it? When the word "vase" is expressed, taking only the inner mental substance as the object to be expressed, if one does not mistake it for a single appearance but understands it as merely a mental appearance, then, apart from expressing one's own mental experience, it will not involve taking external objects such as water-carrying vessels. If the external vase is not understood by that name, then the symbol specifically used to understand the external object becomes meaningless, because the intended object of expression is never understood. If it functions through confusion, then it is not an object of expression in ultimate truth but becomes conventional truth. Therefore, merely understanding the meaning through these words is established in the world through experience. If one asks what aspects of the external object the expressing word intends to express, then one should answer that it expresses only the aspect of excluding what is other than that object. Because the self-characterized entity of the object, as well as the class and self-character of consciousness that follow it, are not suitable as objects of expression, and the expressing word can only understand the aspect of excluding what is not that object. That is, by the word "vase" excluding what is not a vase, it shows only the characteristic of the vase, and the exclusion of what is not a vase exists in reality. Therefore, due to the influence of attachment, the self-character becomes an object of expression, which ultimately culminates in this mode of distinction. If analyzed in this way, then external, simple objects and internal mental appearances, each independently

If it is said to be expressible, then the meaning of words cannot be established. If the expressible is different from those two, then it is impossible for it to be a third entity of other aggregates. It is said that the sound "wood" expresses the exclusion of others, which is merely contrary to non-wood, that is, merely cutting off that the thing is not that, this is considered to be understandable. But that is only nominally, not ultimately. Not only that, but in general, the so-called "general" ultimately is also the exclusion of others. If analyzed well, if the image grasped by conceptual thought does not exist in the external object, then how can expressing it rely on or be related to external things? In reality, there is no connection at all. If we examine the sound that applies equally to all appearances or follows, then what follows the expressed particular things? Some people think that it is the so-called "general," but that is impossible, because the appearing things reside in mutually similar things, and relying on it, there will arise a general consciousness that understands its result as the same category, which is considered to be merely the appearance of the object of conceptual thought. And such a mental appearance is because seeing and being accustomed to external objects, the power increases and it merely becomes a transformation, which in reality has no following with the appearing things. Because there is no difference from one's own inner consciousness, it will not become following other things. Thus, examining and analyzing, if we distinguish appearance and examination, then neither the general nor the self-character of the expressed thing can be established. Second, that self-character thing, The object of conceptual thought that is falsely established on the basis of things, by recognizing it, because it is recognized in a way that contradicts that thing with all other things, so it is also contradictory and complementary, and in the mind, appearance and examination are mixed. In this case, when examining the meaning of the sound or what the sound expresses, there is no contradiction between saying that it is considered to be the object of appearance of conceptual thought and saying that the meaning of excluding others can be expressed. Because all general-holding consciousness, the sound must transform those appearances that contradict all other things, so it seems to follow a part of the external object. Because contradicting others is the nature of each thing, it is following. Thus, all the key points like the expressible and the following are also the things'
