While admitting that consciousness arises in such a way, since the moment of consciousness holding the final letter of the name is mixed without being slightly interrupted by anything else, it is amazing that the phenomenon of simultaneous appearance does not occur, but the phenomenon of interrupted appearance is amazing. Even though interrupted by the five powerful objects, it seems as if there is no interruption because of the speed of entry, and all realms appear simultaneously and continuously. Although entering quickly without being interrupted by one thing, such a delusion does not arise, which is indeed a logical statement, and it is very strange, this is dissatisfaction. In this regard, the six faculties and six objects are not all simultaneous, although the mind faculty is the only past, but when the five objects and five faculties gather at the same time, at the moment when the five consciousnesses arise outside of that, the mind consciousness arising from the mind that has just ceased is also present simultaneously with those five, and as long as it arises in that way, it will continuously appear, therefore, the part that arises simultaneously in fact shows the harm. For example, while seeing the layout of a garden, one also smells the fragrance of flowers, hears the songs of bees, experiences the touch of cool wind, tastes the sweetness of fruits, and at the same time, the mind's speculation runs continuously. If one deliberately places the mind especially on one object, thereby weakening the immediate ability to hold other objects, then everything will not appear continuously. Although that is the case in reality, if one thinks it is difficult to understand that everything appears simultaneously, then by thinking about hearing sounds continuously while seeing forms, one can understand that multiple consciousnesses arise simultaneously. There is harm in multiple consciousnesses not arising simultaneously, therefore, if the conditions are complete, multiple different kinds of consciousnesses will arise simultaneously. Even in the case of the single eye consciousness, there are instances of simultaneously focusing on multiple colors such as blue and yellow. Since the consciousness that simultaneously holds various appearances is contained by one continuum, two similar consciousnesses will not arise together. The simultaneous arising of multiple consciousnesses is due to the proximity of objects, just as various images appear simultaneously in a mirror. Just as there is only one mirror, and two images of one form do not appear, in the consciousness of one continuum, there will not be similar consciousnesses.

Two times cannot exist simultaneously. If, like how some crystals show two images even from a single candle, one might think there's no contradiction in two similar things appearing, then how could two appear when there aren't two entities? If it appears as an illusion like two moons, it's not of the same kind, because the nature of that consciousness is determined as two moons on this and that shore. Therefore, all appearances that arise simultaneously will differ in terms of the place and form of the object, and there will be no similar kinds among them. Non-conceptual (consciousness) can know that many things arise simultaneously from the causes and conditions of various appearances, but conceptual thought is not dominated by the object of apprehension; rather, it arises from the cause of the previous consciousness, where, on a certain object, all others are excluded, and only a conceptual thought arises there. Therefore, two conceptual thoughts cannot occur simultaneously; they can only occur sequentially. Although many things appear simultaneously in this way, endless things do not appear, because the sense faculties and consciousness of ordinary people can only perceive a limited range of objects and cannot universally exclude everything. If one possesses special sense faculties free from opposing conditions, then the appearance of a vast realm can also be perceived simultaneously, and even the omniscient can see all knowable things at once. As stated in the Vinaya Treasury: 'Arhats see two thousand, three thousand, and countless.' As mentioned above, if there is no difference in the appearance of those things seen, then how can one explain the assertion that when dissimilar conceptual thoughts arise, sometimes there is an interval, and sometimes when dissimilar conceptual thoughts arise, there is no interval? This is merely a fabrication of one's own conceptual thought; things do not appear that way in reality. Furthermore, even for mental conceptual thoughts that arise solely without relying on sense consciousness, it will not be perceived as sequential but will appear to be perceived simultaneously, because even the rapid movement at the edge of an instant exists. Second, if multiple consciousnesses arise simultaneously because objects are close, then when all five objects are close simultaneously, will one always apprehend all five simultaneously? One cannot assert this, because even when the five objects are close, one does not apprehend all five in every case, but one sees that one apprehends only one of them, which is contradictory. If one says that apprehending an object is not done solely by the collection of object and sense faculty, but also requires the immediately preceding cause to be complete, then in some cases, form
