Where does it transform? No transformation occurs because there is no connection. Therefore, if an existent thing itself does not possess the nature of impermanence, then another thing cannot make it impermanent. Because the very essence of existence has abandoned impermanence and abides, just as light can never turn into darkness, it will be permanent. Even if there exists another non-thing unrelated to it, it will not perform any differentiating action on it, just as the surrounding edge is bounded by the sky, and the vase does not perish because of it. Second, summarize the thing and its established meaning. First, the mere non-thing of the edge cannot establish a connection according to its own system. If it is said that because the edge of the prior cause and the later edge of the effect, therefore the middle thing and the cause and effect are related, thus the existence related to the edge establishes a distinction. Then, all three, the prior, the later, and the middle, are merely existence, and there is no distinction made by the edge, because each of these three is similarly unrelated to the non-thing that does not exist before or after. The reason for this is that the logician who claims that sound arises under the power of things believes that if it is a thing, then it must be previously existent. Since there is no connection between a thing and what was previously non-existent, saying that a thing was previously non-existent becomes a sound without reason, so they think it is unreasonable to say so. Since a thing cannot be considered previously non-existent, it is also impossible to state that the thing is qualified by the edge of non-existence. Even if the edge of the middle thing is bounded by the things of cause and effect, just as when a pillar, a vase, and a cloth are stacked together, the vase in the middle does not perish because of it. In this way, all causes and effects would exist simultaneously, so the connection of cause and effect would not exist even slightly. If it is said that the cause has ceased and the effect has not yet arisen, and the existence included in the middle is impermanent, then even if it is labeled as cause and effect, it is not a thing now, so the previous fault remains. Someone says: The present effect is merely existence itself, and it also meets and combines with the thing of its prior cause, thus creating a connection, so the former is the cause. In this regard, the Praise of Dependent Arising says: "Because it produces a connection, it is called a cause." According to this translation, it is also so.

It should be understood that these three words are expressions of dissatisfaction. If the previous cause has disappeared and the result is now present, it is not enough to establish a connection merely through concepts. If a connection that includes compatibility exists in its essence, then both the cause and the result exist, and the existing thing and the connection are also eternal. This is because both the existing thing and the connection are present now, and there is not the slightest connection between them and non-existence. If one thinks this way, then what is the cause and what is the result? It is like a pot and cloth existing at the same time. If one is worried about that fault and thinks that what does not exist is being made, that is, when the cause exists, the result does not exist, so the result that did not exist before is made by the cause, and when the result exists, the cause does not exist, so the non-existence after disappearing is the maker of the result. If that is the case, according to your view, a thing and what did not exist before are not both possessed, because you do not admit any connection between a thing and a non-thing at all. Therefore, existence itself is not impermanent, and since the connection between existence and non-thing cannot be expressed in words, then ultimately all things, that is, all existing things, will become purely eternal. This is because all existing things are not impermanent in their essence, and other non-things can never make them impermanent. Therefore, what did not exist before and what does not exist after disappearing, etc., are merely expressed by words that exclude other things, because they are the reason for reversing the assumption that things existed before, but it is not the case that when expressing general characteristics conceptually, the name of a thing can only be used for the current thing. Because it can be said that a disappeared pot, a future pot, a thing that did not exist before, and a thing that did not exist before, etc., can be expressed in many ways. Refuting the views of logicians on impermanence is not explained so clearly elsewhere, but it is explained very clearly here. Merely in name, the disappearance of the cause and the arising of the result are like the two ends of a balance, not interrupted by other things. Therefore, neither the cause arising without disappearing, nor the cause arising after disappearing is the case. Because the interdependence between the cause and the result without interruption is difficult to examine, and when the result exists, the cause has already disappeared. Second, the connection is not the nature of a substance, therefore, establishing a connection on a non-existent thing is the view of outsiders.
