It is merely arguing without distinguishing the objects of conceptual and non-conceptual thought, saying "three-in-one." Therefore, if one boasts that the combining valid cognition is a measurable three-in-one of mixed self-and-general characteristics, then the fault of the measurable object of valid cognition not being determined as two will not occur. For example, the thought that "color is impermanent" is connecting the general concept of color, but the self-characteristic does not appear in the object of the general concept, so the mind that holds the general concept does not actually connect impermanence to the self-characteristic. Similarly, all things such as sound should be understood. Furthermore, those who think that it starts from connecting the general concept of impermanence to the self-characteristic have three intentions: On the basis of the subsequent inference recognizing that sound is impermanent, for the appearing blue, etc., thinking "this is impermanent," this thinking that holds the appearing thing is a decisive cognition. Even if one thinks "this thing is impermanent," the object of thought remains the general characteristic without changing, it is only that it is not distinguished due to the mixing of appearance and concept. Even if one newly determines impermanence from reasoning while seeing blue, the object of subsequent inference is the general characteristic, and even if there is an appearing self-characteristic, it does not make it its real object. If, without any reasoning, at the moment of cessation, one thinks "this will cease" or "has ceased," then the object of concept is not the self-characteristic, but only the general characteristic. Furthermore, ordinary people can only recognize subtle impermanence through subsequent inference, and although coarse impermanence can be recognized through direct perception, it will become the object of the general. Therefore, although direct perception is a valid cognition, there is no general characteristic in its object. Although subsequent inference is a valid cognition, its real object is the general characteristic, not the appearing self-characteristic. The definite knowledge that direct perception and subsequent inference have already decided as impermanent is not a valid cognition, but a decisive cognition, and its object is the general characteristic. If some Tibetans, like acknowledging that the basis of direct perception and decisive cognition are the same, then the second moment of direct perception, etc., are not considered valid cognitions. There are many things to be examined about this, but I will not elaborate on it here. Therefore, a three-in-one of mixed self-and-general characteristics will never exist in the object of valid cognition, so the so-called combining valid cognition does not exist at all. Second, abandoning non-existent becoming dharma, existent becoming dharma
