The existence of two is established, because the minds of others are not directly perceived, and knowing that they exist is inference. How is it inferred? Because they can speak fluently, and can teach tenets with words, and can follow, and can use body language, etc., so it is inferred that this person has a mind. Because such words cannot arise without relying on the cause—mind, therefore the nature of mind must also be established in the continuum of others, so such inference is not mistaken. Otherwise, if there are not many inferences as valid cognitions, such as inferring fire from smoke, it is impossible to arise, because of the non-deceptive cause-and-effect relationship, so inferring from such signs is also valid cognition, therefore inference as valid cognition is established apart from direct perception. Second, refuting the establishment that inference is not a valid cognition, divided into a summary and a detailed explanation. First, if inference is seen as mistaken in some cases, such as eating one emblic myrobalan (སྐྱུ་རུ་ར།), and inferring that all emblic myrobalans everywhere are astringent, like this it may be mistaken, therefore because it is unreliable, it is considered not a valid cognition. If you say so, then such a mistaken one is not inference, because what you see is a pseudo-reason that does not have the three characteristics, so you regard the true reason as the same as the pseudo-reason, not because inference itself has mistakes. Second, divided into: there is no mistake in the establishing reason, there is no mistake in the negating reason. First, if the establishing reason is correct, then it is impossible for mistakes to exist in any way, because from reasons such as smoke and being made, at some times and places, and for some phenomena like sound, for what is to be established like fire and impermanence, it is undoubtedly established in the minds of people, that is the result produced by what is to be established, or the essence of the same nature as it is undoubtedly determined, thereby establishing a special concomitance, if one's own cause like fire, or impermanence etc. of the same nature as oneself disappear and do not exist, then the reason like smoke and being made cannot exist, therefore pervasion is established.

Whatever is seen as having such a nature, not only in the present circumstance of seeing, but also in all other times and places, it must be of such a definite nature, because it is the law of things, like the heat of fire, so sometimes it will not be confused, but sometimes it may be confused, which is impossible in any case. Second, the nature of the observable dharma, such as smoke, or the reason for it itself, that is, the cause fire and the pervasive observable things, even if there are other causes of seeing, such as the senses, but these things do not appear, that is, the cognition of it does not arise, then how can there be the nature of the observable, and the result and the pervasive that are related to it? Therefore, it can be determined that it does not exist in any case, so there is no confusion in negative inference. Only through cause and nature, all other negative inferences are actually summarized, that is, because the nature of the observable itself and the place of association are contradictory, the accompanying association will not arise, and the contradictory opposition will eventually become apparent but not apparent. Second, if inference is not valid, then there will be very great faults, refuting the truth and the answer to it. First, inference is confused, because it is aimed at the common phase, if it is considered that the cognition of the common phase is not valid, then in fact it will be concluded that everything other than what is directly recognized by the senses now does not exist, such as the things of the afterlife that you think. That is to say, now that one's own property, utensils, residence, friends, relatives, etc., which are not in the object of direct cognition, and many things in other times and places, are considered to exist as clinging to the common phase, not clinging to the self-phase, then these will become non-existent, because they are not directly cognized now, because it is admitted that thinking that existence is a mistake through the way of the common phase. Second, if one has not grasped it through direct cognition now, but those things will not become non-existent, because the hidden things now can be directly recognized by the senses at other times, if you say so, then it is reasonable to determine existence and non-existence in terms of existence if the senses directly recognize it at other times and non-existence if they do not recognize it, because the senses are colored, and the seeds and fruits
