Answer: Answers regarding ultimate truth and conventional truth. First, I also agree that the object to be measured by valid cognition, the ultimate object of entry, is a single self-characteristic, as explained above. Second, to establish that inference is a valid cognition. Otherwise, there would be a very great fault. First, to establish as valid cognition from the commitment itself. To prevent the reason for establishing as not valid cognition. First, to establish as valid cognition from the sign of negation. To establish as valid cognition from the sign of establishment. First, refuting the thing and its answer. First, if in the ultimate truth, the object to be measured is one, therefore not admitting other valid cognitions besides one direct perception, then only saying that direct perception is valid cognition. You, the Lokayata (materialist), will also necessarily say that there is no afterlife, because non-existence is not an object to be measured. If non-existence is not measured by valid cognition, then according to your view, there is no other valid cognition. Furthermore, if one definitely believes that there is no afterlife, then the reason for this must be decided by valid cognition in this way. If direct perception does not measure non-existence, then is it merely saying that there is no afterlife, rather than definitely establishing non-existence? If it is certain that there is no afterlife, since direct perception does not measure non-existence, then the certainty of non-existence itself is established as a second valid cognition. Moreover, since there is no function of generating self-grasping consciousness towards non-existence, it is not entered by the consciousness arising from the senses. The reason for this is that the consciousness arising from the senses is definitely produced from the power of having an object to be grasped. If sense consciousness arises without relying on the power of having an object to be grasped, then even if there are causes that prevent the senses from grasping, such as things separated by eons, or things that are very close, the consciousness arising from the senses will still arise, because it is one that apprehends without the object imparting an image. Therefore, this sense consciousness would also apprehend rabbit horns and so on, because even if the object itself has no appearing meaning, there is reason for the senses to apprehend it. Therefore, the statement that direct perception apprehends emptiness and so on is also based on the basis of negation being apprehended by the senses, and the object of negation is apprehended by general consciousness, but due to the confusion of the functions of conceptual and non-conceptual, the illusion of direct perception apprehending arises.

It is like thinking that the image of the sky appears in the water. Because the sky has no shape, it is impossible to have its image. However, due to the shape of the appearing scene, the empty space is understood as the image of the sky. Therefore, although there are many non-existent things in this present place, in the direct perception without conceptualization that trusts it, only the things that are present in front appear, and it is impossible for other things to appear. However, the subsequent consciousness will think that this and that are not here, and like this, make many distinctions. This is a general characteristic, but the non-conceptual itself does not have such a name. Second, refuting the answer: If it is said that for non-existent things, it is because the sensory direct perception itself regresses, so it can be determined that that thing does not exist. Then, this contradicts your own tenet (referring to the opponent, the same below), or if it can be determined that it does not exist, then that is inference. How does it contradict? If the direct perception प्रमाण that determines non-existence regresses, then it is only that the measuring प्रमाण does not exist. If the प्रमाण does not intervene, the thing to be measured can be established, then it is very contradictory, just like the blue color can be established without the previous grasping प्रमाण. That is to say, because there is the self-grasping प्रमाण, the thing to be measured must be established. If the thing to be measured can be established because there is no प्रमाण, then the son of a barren woman, etc., will also exist. If that is the case, the प्रमाण has not regressed, and in fact it is the opposite of it, so it will be obtained that the vase, etc., do not exist, so it is very contradictory. Therefore, if there is no inference प्रमाण, the direct perception will not directly intervene in non-existent things, and merely the regression of direct perception cannot be the reason for the non-existence of the object to be negated. Therefore, the name of definite non-existence will be interrupted, so as long as the name of saying negation exists, there cannot be no inference प्रमाण. If it is said that like a visible vase, the name of definite non-existence here is established by the regression of direct perception, then this can only be the sign of regression and concomitance, and there is no other choice. Merely not generating the measuring direct perception cannot negate everything. Visibility is the cause, and its result is the absence of direct perception consciousness, and from this, the name of definite non-existence is obtained through inference. If there is no concomitance and regression, then it has already been said that merely not seeing cannot establish non-existence. Second, establishing the existence of inference from the sign of establishment: You, the Lokayata, because you know that the minds of other disciples of your own, etc., exist, therefore it is also a प्रमाण.
