If it is said that the objects of appearance are the same, then that general imputation that is merely apprehended by consciousness, is not the same and not clear, etc., has already been completely refuted. Fourth, establishing non-reality by establishing the generality itself: How can things that have the nature of appearance and are mutually different become the nature of one without difference? Because having difference itself abandons non-difference and exists. Even if it is thought that one appearance also has temporary differences, and that nature mutually follows, then what contradiction is there in having two natures of non-difference? Because having difference and not having difference exist by mutually abandoning each other, how can those two contradictions become one thing? It is impossible to become. If it is said that it is impossible for appearance itself to have both having difference and not having difference, but the nature of those same general things exists outside of those appearances, and through it, it is recognized that those are the same, then just like there is a red willow in a castle, the general that exists in difference has no connection with appearance, because one self is unrelated, even if it arises, it has already been negated above, so saying that those are the general of appearances, it becomes that there is no connection at all. If it is said, then it is the same for you who accept negation as general, it is not the same, because negation non-reality does not need to exist in a way that is one or different from appearance, so there is no refutation by such an examination of it, because relying on negation, consciousness has the connection of the imputed general. Therefore, if one examines the general that follows all appearances as the same, then it is merely that consciousness imputes it in that way, and its own nature is non-reality, because it appears like a common general. Fifth, not conforming to the result: If the general is a thing, then is it a result arising from a cause, or is it not? If it exists in the result itself, because it is born from momentary different causes, it is not, and it must perish moment by moment, but you do not accept such a reason either, because you accept the general as unique and constant. Furthermore, if it is a result, then it is certain to perish, because perishing is the reason for the establishment of the thing itself and the subsequent connection.

It is impossible for something arising from a cause to possess permanence. If it is said that genera are not effects, then, because they are not related to appearances and do not arise from causes, they become unreal. Sixth, depending on verbal memory, there are two aspects: refuting substantiality and doubt. First, although the sense consciousnesses, such as eye consciousness, which arise from the power of the objects of apprehension, do not need to rely on names or verbal memory, for the consciousness that grasps the general, if it does not rely on verbal memory, the object itself will not appear as such. Therefore, because the general exists as the object of apprehension, it is not that consciousness arises, but it is merely transformed there from the power of internal components such as verbal memory. Second, it is not necessarily so. When seeing two objects of cows, even if some of the consciousnesses that grasp them do not have verbal memory, a consciousness arises that follows those two without difference in kind. Therefore, even if it does not rely on verbal memory, can the general generate its own consciousness? No, the reason why that kind of consciousness arises is not because the general exists as the object of apprehension, but because the appearances of the two cows have the same nature or are close, and there is a following connection, so that kind of consciousness arises. How is that? Just like the shape of the eye and the pillar, although there is no common following kind, just like seeing two cows, those two are the result of eye consciousness, that is, the cause. Therefore, the eye and shape, etc., are close by way of generating eye consciousness, that is, like thinking that they are together the cause of eye consciousness. Therefore, for what reason are they close, that is, what they do in common is not because a common phenomenon exists as a substance, so it generates consciousness, but because it is commonly combined by consciousness for other reasons. If that is the case, is there a reason for mutual closeness on the thing itself, is that not a substantial genus? No, for example, by the reasons of having a mane and dewlap, etc., the difference between it and non-it is distinguished, so that cows are classified into one kind, and those that do not have those in the appearance are excluded, and others that have those are excluded. Like that, excluding other genera, even if those follow all genera that have those, there is no common substance that follows. Seventh, the establishment of the general.
