Just as a colorful rope is mistaken for a snake, that image cannot be established in the mind until conceptual thought adds a fabricated label. Like this, to fabricate something that does not exist as existing is merely an illusion. If all these are the same, then the infallible appearance of dependent origination should not appear to the Buddha, because the Buddha does not have a fabricated label added by illusion. If you say that the Buddha also sees, then it is equivalent to admitting that the Buddha also has a fabricated label added by illusion. If the so-called "established by conceptual thought" is not mistaken, then it is merely the appearance of the thing itself existing. For example, fire itself has the function of cooking, etc., and it is only establishing a name on its own state, and it will not merely become established by conceptual thought. Therefore, if we examine with the wisdom of ultimate truth, merely because it is not established, it does not make all worldly appearances become fabrication and illusion, because in worldly appearances, there are two types: fabrication and non-fabrication relative to the world itself. Therefore, the non-fabricated worldly appearance can be established by worldly valid cognition, and there is no contradiction. Therefore, the Tathagata said that all phenomena appear by the power of conceptual thought, are established by conceptual thought, and are merely posited by conceptual thought. This is because, merely these appearances of causes and conditions, no matter how they appear, if we examine with the wisdom of ultimate truth, it is impossible to establish them as truly existing. Therefore, clinging to these as truly existing is merely the fabrication of conceptual thought. This is not to say that we should deny that in the face of worldly valid cognition, things themselves have functions and are established by valid cognition. If you think that even if things themselves are not established by valid cognition, merely the fabrication of conceptual thought, then these fabrications can be established by valid cognition in the face of conceptual thought, and there is no contradiction. If things themselves do not exist, and they can exist merely through mind, then everything that appears to conceptual thought, such as permanence, self, etc., should be established by valid cognition, then non-valid consciousness and its object will not be established. For this reason, it is acceptable to acknowledge that merely these appearances of causes and conditions are conventional truth, and not allow analysis with reason, but only distinguish between truth and falsehood according to worldly sayings, even if this is the view of those who speak of no self-nature. Or analyze with worldly valid cognition, and in the conventional, there are two types: those that can function and those that cannot.

How to distinguish them? Those who assert the absence of inherent existence, considering only the self-characteristic of being able to perform a function as conventionally true, say: Regardless of whose system those are, in the face of universally nominal valid cognition, an entity capable of performing a function and a universal characteristic incapable of doing so cannot be on equal footing. Because the designation that is renowned and established in the world is established only by the fact that it is not deceptive in performing that function in appearance. And that is from the perspective of the object itself, because the fire that appears in the mind does not perform the function of cooking. Just as it is undeniable that the self-characteristic of fire is infallibly established as performing that function. Therefore, the two minds of valid and invalid cognition are distinguished by the power of apprehending what is in accordance with and not in accordance with the state of affairs of things, and it must be acknowledged that things are established as they are apprehended by the valid mind. Otherwise, it is not possible to distinguish the distinctions between valid and invalid cognition. Enough with extensive elaboration. Second, refuting that the definition of self-characteristic is too broad. Refuting that the definition of universal characteristic is too broad. First, those who assert that universals are real say: The definition of the object of measurement, the self-characteristic, is to perform a function, which is also too broad for the universal characteristic, because the universal performs a function. Therefore, they say that both the universal characteristic and the self-characteristic have the ability to perform a function. That is not reasonable, because if the universal characteristic and the self-characteristic both have the ability to perform a function, then if the definition of the universal exists, one should see that the mind of apprehending the universal follows, and if it does not exist, one should see the state of disappearing, but that is impossible, because the universal is permanent and always exists, so the wisdom of the universal should also always arise. Even if it exists, it does not arise, then it is not its cause, and there is no disappearance for it, so it is also impossible to realize that it is the wisdom of its result. If it disappears, then the wisdom of the universal should always not arise, because the state of its non-existence will never change. Therefore, not to mention that the universal does not produce other results, it does not even have the entity of performing a function to produce even the wisdom of self-apprehension, because the state of following and disappearing is not seen in the wisdom of apprehending the universal, so it does not perform a function, just as the two moons are not established, but the wisdom of appearing there arises. If it produces, then the mind is necessarily pervaded by following its existence or non-existence, for example, the eye faculty, form, light, and attention, etc.
