Therefore, it is elaborately proven with reason that there are differences such as functioning. First, what are the characteristics of these two objects of measurement? Here, when establishing the validity of conventional cognition, whatever is regarded as the object of acceptance and rejection of a person is what is truly capable of producing its own result, which is what exists ultimately in this context. And what is incapable of functioning is called conventionally existent. Such objects are called particulars and universals. The ability or inability to function is said to be the nature of the self and common dharmas. The two truths in the context of conventions are also designated as such. Second, refuting the impossible and the overly broad. First, based on the tenets of those who assert selflessness, the opponents say: If, in this way, one examines with ultimate reasoning, just as a double moon is not established, so too a single moon is not established, and therefore the two become equal. Therefore, since it is established by valid cognition that all phenomena do not have the ability to function ultimately, the ability to function ultimately is impossible. If it is said that when examined with ultimate analysis, no phenomenon is found, that is true, but that does not prevent the ability to function when examining the object of conventional valid cognition, because it is impossible to negate it in the face of conventional valid cognition. The reason for this is that the appearance of just these conditions, such as seeds, etc., produce their own results such as sprouts, and the function of fire to cook and burn, etc., because conventional valid cognition sees without deception and undeniably that objects of self-characterization have the ability to function. If it is said that the functioning that appears in convention, if examined ultimately, does not find the functioning of arising, etc., and therefore it is considered that non-functioning is equal to a double moon and is conventional. Then, why would the functioning of the objects themselves, regardless of the imputation of a person's mind, become like that? It should not become like that. Those others say: Such functioning is also a conventionality imputed by a person's mind, and without imputation, the characteristic of the seed itself producing a sprout is not established, they strongly believe so.

If someone says that it cannot be established by examining with the wisdom of ultimate truth, and that the Thus-gone One has also said that all phenomena are merely established by the power of conceptualization. Then, let's explain its meaning in detail: We also strongly agree that by examining with the wisdom of ultimate truth, one cannot find a place to cling to phenomena that are separate from one and many. However, the appearance of just this condition is established in the face of conventional truth by the appearance of just that much by the power of conditions. But it is not to prove that it is not visible by the wisdom of ultimate truth. If you admit that, then, like the appearance of two moons that appear due to the power of interdependence, external objects have no self-characteristic; and like the appearance of one moon, external objects have self-characteristic. These two exist in the worldly conventional level of examining external objects, but it is not to deny that they do not exist by the wisdom of ultimate truth. If you also admit that, then, here, the so-called "acting in ultimate truth," if it is used as a term for "having self-characteristic" when examining external objects, then how can you deny it? Please think about it carefully. If you say that the establishment of being able to act and not being able to act are all just appearances, and they are the same because they are not established in ultimate truth, so you deny the conventional truth established by self-characteristic. Then, you should explain the reason why the one moon with self-characteristic and the two moons without self-characteristic become the same in conventional truth. If you say that the reason is that it is not established in ultimate truth. Then, because it is not established in ultimate truth, it becomes the same in conventional truth, then the comb and real hair should also become the same in conventional truth in terms of acting and not acting, but no one can establish that they become the same in conventional truth like that, because the wisdom of conventional truth has irrefutably established that they are not the same in its own level. If you say that the acting of real hair is also just falsely imputed by conceptualization, and it cannot be established that it acts from the object itself. Then, what does this "falsely imputed outward by conceptualization" mean? Is it a delusion about the object, or a non-delusive wisdom? If you think that it is a delusion falsely imputed by the mind to the object that does not exist, then, in the absence of being obscured or conceptualization falsely imputing, the object itself does not act, for example, like the delusion without conceptualization, two moons, that object will not appear until it is obscured by the cause of delusion, and the delusion of conceptualization.
