Furthermore, it is not the case that one's own faculties, etc., become such a state. Because even in children and livestock, etc., who do not discern whether there are qualities or not, attachment to one's own faculties, etc., is seen; and even though the eyes are blurred and blind, etc., the faculties are defective, yet there is still awareness, and there is attachment to one's own faculties, etc.; and even if one knows that others' eyes are clear and bodies are beautiful, etc., possessing qualities, yet there is no attachment to other faculties other than one's own continuum; and there is no attachment to one's own faculties and limbs, etc., that have passed away in the past; and the word "etc." means that even now there is no attachment to the "mine" of hair, nails, limbs, etc., that have been separated from the body. For the same reason, the cause of the arising of the thought of "mine" is not because of seeing qualities, therefore, even if one sees faults that are not qualities, one does not abandon the thought of "mine." Furthermore, not only that, but even when one truly sees faults, one does not give up, because with attachment one fabricates qualities that do not exist on "mine" as the means of accomplishing one's own happiness, therefore, even at that time, seeing does not turn back. Therefore, how can cultivating the self that is without harm to the cause of attachment to "mine" and suffering, etc., harm the attachment to "mine"? It is impossible to harm. Secondly, not being free from attachment by knowing as other: The Samkhyas say, "It is because of seeing qualities that one is attached to 'mine' and not to samsara, but the transformations such as form that arise from the external principle. The so-called 'intelligence' or 'great,' like a two-sided mirror, connects the inside and outside, like the illusion that arises from the mixing of the self, the purusha of consciousness, and the object, clinging to 'my happiness,' 'my form,' etc., and attachment arises. If one knows these as other and thus becomes free from attachment to 'mine,' then the liberation is the self, the purusha of consciousness, abiding independently," they say. But it is not so, because now if I could obtain the faculties of gods, etc., that are superior to the eyes, etc., how wonderful it would be, for that reason, one seeks such other faculties; and because even ordinary people, who are intelligent and know that faculties and limbs, etc., are newly born and destroyed, know that the self is other than the faculties, etc.

It is like this, just as a palace relies on a mountain, I am attached to the idea that "I" am permanent, and I seek to obtain other various sensory abilities, but I never think about obtaining another "I." If everything must be naturally free from attachment, but no ordinary person is free from attachment, therefore, even if one is attached to "mine" because one sees "I" and "mine" as one, it is not attachment to "mine," but rather the person who is attached to "I" will naturally become attached to the inner limbs in one's own continuum, such as the eyes, which are represented by form, etc. This is because of the power of clinging to "I," without needing other causes, such attachment arises effortlessly or naturally. Therefore, if someone feels disgusted with their own eyes, etc., because of present suffering, that is only the arising of hatred towards that object, and it is not being free from attachment to "mine." Even when one is dissatisfied with "mine," there is still attachment to "mine," because one hopes to become such a "mine" that is free from suffering, so one does not厌恶(yànwù, aversion) the "mine" that has transformed into another state, but seeks and pursues such a "mine." Therefore, the arising of such hatred is caused by suffering, it is caused by the cause of suffering, it is the result of suffering. Hatred will last only as long as the cause of suffering has not disappeared, and when suffering disappears, hatred will also disappear. When the form of hatred and aversion disappears, then attachment to "mine" will again rely on its original nature, just like the diseases of the eyes, etc., are healed, or one newly obtains the ability of the eyes in another life, and the state of occasional anger towards one's wife disappears. Second, identifying freedom from attachment: In one's own school, because the view of self is uprooted from the root, one has abandoned all attachment to taking what is beneficial to "I" and abandoning what is harmful to "I," therefore, with regard to all phenomena, the mind is equally balanced or has equanimity. For example, when applying sandalwood paste or cutting with a knife, one does not generate attachment thinking "this is beneficial to me," nor does one generate anger thinking "this is harmful to me." This state of equality is called freedom from attachment, and it is impossible for attachment to arise again towards any object. Second, suffering
