Secondly, explaining the root of all faults to be destroyed, and indicating what the antidote to destroy them is. First, abandoning reality and doubts about it. First, it is not the case that different faults cannot be destroyed by one antidote, but all faults such as attachment are rooted in ignorance or delusion, that is, they arise only from that one. What is such delusion? It is the view of the perishable aggregates, the clinging to self and what belongs to self, for if one does not cling to self, attachment and the like cannot arise. Secondly, when explaining the view of the perishable as ignorance, some of the Hearer schools say: This is not reasonable, for ignorance is merely the nature of unclear intelligence, so it is a root affliction, while the view of the perishable is a view and a wrong understanding, so the two are different. Because the view of the perishable and ignorance are said to be concomitant, if they are one, then there should be no concomitance. Answer: In general, ignorance is not merely the absence of intelligence, for even earth and stones have it. The so-called unclear is not merely not grasping an object, for when one merely does not grasp an object, no aspect of a mind that focuses on an object arises, so there is no inverted clinging. Therefore, it is said that a mental factor with a clinging attitude that is contrary to intelligence is ignorance, and this is present in the view of the perishable, because it is the clinging attitude that is the opposite of the intelligence that correctly realizes selflessness. And it is not merely the absence of intelligence, but the mental factor itself focuses on the object as self, so it is ignorance. Moreover, the sutra says that inverted conditions are ignorance, so this view of the perishable is also an inverted condition, so it is a division of ignorance, so it is not reasonable to say that it is different from ignorance. Moreover, the Sutra of the Moon Lamp says: What is it that is free from ignorance? It is that which is free from superimposition on things as they are in reality. Moreover, the Sutra of the Ten Grounds says: All the arising of evil deeds in the world arises from the manifest clinging to self, and if one is free from the manifest clinging to self, it does not arise. Thus, when explaining the ignorance of the twelve links of dependent arising, the view of the perishable is explained, and so on. Therefore, what is the contradiction of the unreasonable concomitance? It is that, as explained above, the view of the perishable is also ignorance.

Because it is a distinction of "having limbs," just like "a forest with leaves" and "a body with hands," here we will discuss the meaning that ignorance is also the view of self. This phrase, "What contradiction is there?" is also applied to some of the subsequent assertions. Second, what is the antidote that destroys all faults? Because contemplating selflessness or emptiness contradicts the view of self, all faults such as attachment, which arise from the nature of being rooted in or dependent on the view of self, are also completely contradictory. Therefore, by becoming accustomed to the view of emptiness, one can eradicate all faults from the root. Third, even if all faults are temporarily ceased, they cannot be completely exhausted, because the nature or essence of sentient beings is such. For example, just as whiteness and so on are the nature of form, like the heat of fire. If you think so, that is not correct, because it is not established as the nature of sentient beings. Why? Because when the antidote side, such as selflessness, is connected with the mindstream of sentient beings, the cessation of those faults in the mindstream is also seen by valid cognition, so it is not established as its nature. If it were established as its nature, even if connected with the antidote, it would not cease. Therefore, just as some places near fire do not have a cold touch, for the differences in the mindstream accustomed to the antidote, some faults can be ceased, so it cannot be established that if one is a sentient being, one must have faults. Fourth, if some mindstreams temporarily cut off faults, but it is also possible to exhaust them forever, just like melted gold and so on, although they will never be hard, they will become hard when separated from fire. If you think so, then the faults that the antidote has exhausted forever will not arise in the manner of recurring again. Because that antidote is inseparable from the nature or essence of the mind, and the object to be abandoned has been completely destroyed, so it does not exist at all in that mindstream. For example, just as fire destroys wood and turns it into ashes, it is impossible to turn back into wood, so from the perspective of what is to be abandoned, it is not necessarily certain to recur. Two, from the perspective that other paths besides realizing selflessness are not like this: With self-grasping present, liberation is impossible. Wanting another path to liberation,
