Non-existence, because the two cannot be one. These two are mutually exclusive and contradictory. If something exists, it must be separate from non-existence; if it doesn't exist, it must be separate from existence. Therefore, a third knowable entity that is neither existence nor non-existence cannot inherently exist. To establish it beyond existence and non-existence is like a rabbit's horn. So, what about the state of being neither existent nor non-existent, like a hermaphrodite? That is merely a designation for something that is neither existent nor non-existent; it is not established as such. Therefore, directing one's mind towards the four extremes of permanence and annihilation does not bring one closer to the straight, stainless, and unconditioned nature of reality. Therefore, the perfectly pure view is the wisdom that does not abide in anything. It is the mere natural state where all terms like subject and object are exhausted. As the Bhagavan said: The Buddhas are the Dharmakaya, the guides see the Dharmata. Since Dharmata cannot be known, it cannot be fully cognized. This means that the ultimate reality of Dharmata or Dharma is self-arisen wisdom, not a philosophical system that arises from speculation and reliance on the mind, because it can be measured and established by the mind. So, how can such wisdom be used as a path? If one combines the appearance-emptiness skillful means and wisdom that understands it, the self-arisen wisdom of the son, the stainless bindu, can awaken in the heart. As it says in the Adhyayasutra: All dharmas are by nature unobservable and clear light, therefore one should cultivate the perception of not abiding in anything. This means that the essence of wisdom is merely designated as not abiding in any extreme, such as existence or non-existence. Maitreya says: Therefore, liberation is merely the exhaustion of afflictions. It is like this: if any of the four extremes are not cut off, the view is not pure. The self-arisen wisdom that is liberated from the four extremes is called non-abiding wisdom. In the glorious Stainless Radiance it says: Consciousness, in ultimate truth, is not accepted by the wise as existing, being free from the nature of one and many, like a lotus in the sky, neither existent nor non-existent, neither existent nor non-existent, nor possessing both natures, liberated from the four extremes, that is the lineage of the Madhyamikas. And also, in the tantras of the Great Perfection it says: The stain of the four extremes is self-purified. And also, Maitreya says: Existence and non-existence.

"Neither existent nor non-existent, neither that nor other." Thus and so forth, it is extensively taught. The wisdom of the actual meaning is like seeing the treasure of jewels in one's hand, meeting the face of wisdom itself, introduced to the mind through the forceful means of pith instructions. So, what is this perfectly pure view like? Do you think it is like an object of knowledge that is impossible? It is not like that, because there is the realization of the spontaneously arising wisdom that dissolves all grasping, in a manifest way, so it does not turn into something impossible, like the way of searching for something lost, as mentioned below. Therefore, although there are many texts for introducing the view that is liberated from all the faults just mentioned, here, as before, it is "Aho." If one examines with stainless wisdom, there is not even a particle of any aspect that can identify the nature of the mind as being like this. Thus, having seen the wisdom of non-duality, the so-called meditation means not meditating on anything at all. As the Bhagavan said, "The term emptiness means the ultimate word of not seeing anything," and so on. And like the example, "Seeing the sky, beings often speak of it in words, how does one see the sky? Think about this well." Thus, when meditating on the nature of the mind, if the mind is something that exists, then one should focus on it in accordance with the way it exists. But if there is not even a particle that can be identified as the way the mind exists, then how can one meditate on existence, so one does not know how to meditate. Or if the mind is something that does not exist, then one should meditate on that non-existence, but since the mind does not exist, it cannot be definitively determined in one direction, so how can one meditate on non-existence, so one does not know how to meditate. Therefore, it is not clinging to either existence or non-existence, and if one does not cling to any direction at all, then one does not know how to meditate on either of the two. Aho, how wonderful! So, do you think that the two are united as one? It is not like that, because the so-called mind is abandoning the dharma that separates two dharmas from one dharma. If both existence and non-existence are the case, then it must be something that can be distinguished separately without mixing, such as this is existence and this is non-existence, and since there is a distinction, it has become two dharmas.
