May auspiciousness be swiftly written by Palgye! Homage to Manjushri! A method for settling the mind with flaws in meditation: Through the power of listening, generate faith and aspiration, With extremely diligent effort, Abandon laziness and so forth, And settle on the object of focus. At that time, like a play of lightning, Even if it moves without stopping for a moment, Generate joyful effort and practice repeatedly. Through the power of contemplating the meaning of what you've heard, Do your best to continue the previous stream. During the moment of diligently engaging the mind, Although it's difficult to remain continuously at this time, Settle on it diligently and diligently. That which moves like a shooting star, If it wanders from the continuous to something else, Like inserting it into a rushing stream of water, Take it back again with mindfulness and settle it. Like paper carried away by a crow, Or like the state of water flowing down a steep cliff, During these three initial methods of settling, If you don't diligently exert effort well, Thoughts will move with violent force, Making it difficult to find an opportunity to settle, So strive like building a dam. The mind's horse, which is extremely difficult to tame, Hold it tightly with the rope of mindfulness, Place it in the fence of relaxed equanimity, Cherish urging it on with the reins of effort. When mindfulness becomes slightly stronger, In an unclear, hazy manner, Just settle in the realm of the mind, If you gain a little stability of mind, Then gather your focus inward, And settle closely on the object of focus. Like moths circling around food, Similarly, at this time, the stream of mindfulness, Making it stable is of utmost importance. At that time, for that meditation, Generate a little joy yourself, Like a bee drinking nectar, When you find the inclination to settle, The unbearable movement will subside slightly, It will certainly arise in itself. These two, close settling and taming, Even if you gain a better settlement than before, It's like water in a narrow hole, Subtle thoughts busily continue without end. Like bees circling in a vase, Even if you catch them, they don't give up moving, This is what's called taming. At this time, in the nature of that object of focus, It's crucial to remain still with awareness. When you remain there with awareness, In order to eliminate dullness and excitement when they arise, From the perspective of mental activity, Various thoughts naturally subside, Do your best to make them peaceful. When it's peaceful, maintain equanimity with it, Like a person resting after hard work, Settle with the power of awareness.

Ja. Thoughts are slightly calmed, developing into a place where thoughts increase. The near afflictions are also as before, like muddy water gradually clearing. Approaching tranquility and abandoning distraction, keeping the faults of distraction at bay. At this time of tranquility and near tranquility, the experience of familiarity arises, like a river flowing slowly. Although it seems to abide without movement, there are many subtle movements. At that time, increase effort upwards. Between encouraging abiding and establishing abiding, if interrupted by sinking and excitement, then it is time to re-enter, so it is crucial to properly subdue with mindfulness and equanimity. With the power of diligence, in the end, it will not be interrupted by thoughts, stable like a clear ocean, an experience like being free from waves, giving rise to the state of a diligent one. At this time, abide in equanimity, focusing on one point for a long time, able to enter without interruption. Those times with intention, developing into a state where one can enter even without effort, the opportunity for samadhi is obtained through the power of complete familiarity. At this time, naturally abiding, the mind of desire is focused on one point, becoming the embodiment of accomplishment, unshakable like the king of mountains, the beginning of a complete experience. Through it and familiarity, body and mind become workable, gaining pliancy, which is also first coarse, then it disappears, gaining subtle, pure extreme pliancy. Thus, relying on abandoning the five faults, relying on the eight applications, with the six powers, the four mental engagements, having the state of mind abiding, through gradually familiarizing the nine methods, gradually arising the five meditative experiences, thereby accomplishing tranquility endowed with extreme pliancy. Those are the states of development. Abiding with joy and generating effort, abiding with mindfulness, abandoning distraction. When tranquil, abide in a state of equanimity, when naturally abiding, it is accomplishment, joy, effort, mindfulness and awareness, as well as equanimity and good abiding. The middle is these six. Abiding with joy, generating effort, abiding with awareness and equanimity, or these four can also accomplish. Or these two, abiding with joy, if summarized, then only practice abiding. This is the instruction of samadhi, written by Mipham Namgyal (Mipham Jamyang Namgyal Gyamtso, 1846-1912). May it benefit beings.
