Singing songs of joy, may this path bestow auspiciousness that pervades all directions. This was written spontaneously by Mipham Ösel Dorje on the tenth day of the Dragon Head month of the Rabjung year, at Gyapu Drakkar Dechen Wangphuk (Gyapu Drakkar Dechen Wangphuk), without examining the composition of words, but with the essential secrets of meaning arising instantly, may it be auspicious! A discourse greatly encouraging calm abiding, like the sound of the drums of the gods, resides here. In the peaceful and gentle state where the waves of thoughts are calmed, the glorious one who possesses the self-luminous light of the two wisdoms, to that youthful being, I pay homage with reverence, and write the instructions for taking hold of the great meaning. This uninterrupted and continuous flow of thoughts, like a flood, has been accumulated from beginningless time until now, yet apart from the waves of meaningless suffering, there is nothing else to think about, it is definitely so, without a doubt. If it is left to drift, there will only be illusory suffering, and one's own mind will be of no benefit, and the qualities of calm abiding and insight will not be attained even in the slightest. This is the root of ruin, it is definitely so.

Ah, for one's own mind, the wisdom to discern faults and virtues, to accept and reject, and the level of understanding of one's own experiential path, even if it takes several months to reach, few are diligent. Intention, diligence, mind, and the four legs of discernment, the essence is the continuous cycle of mindfulness. Through the power of stability, on the mirror of one's own mind, happiness arises, filling the environment of the sky. The door of focus is the basis of signs, and focusing on the "I" that relies on the body, as well as subtle hand gestures, letters, etc., whatever one relies on, it can be accomplished if one is accustomed to it. In these degenerate times, the coarse wind-mind of afflictions is like an unruly snake, turbulent and chaotic, therefore, the more one blocks and repels it, the more it will shake. Therefore, many give up because they become frustrated. For the natural state of the uncorrected mind, remain relaxed, merely remembering the self-nature, continuously maintain it, even if the wind moves due to conceptual thoughts, do not follow after them, knowing the means to leave it as it is, the mind-nature will become clearer and clearer like the sky, conceptual thoughts will become more and more peaceful like gold, the clear and transparent lake of mind without impurities, becomes the basis for the qualities of union of calm and insight. Here, in the vast expanse of insight wisdom, gradually gaining stability, the accomplishment of calm abiding is natural. This is a very blissful path, superior to the path with effort, the qualities of union of calm and insight are naturally accomplished. The nature of awareness, the meaning of primordial purity and luminosity, even if one does not truly realize it, focus on the inner self-mind, continuously maintain it without forgetting, this is the most excellent of all the essential instructions for cultivating calm abiding. After becoming accustomed, the skill of the experience of bliss-clarity-non-thought will arise, various appearances will manifest, and becoming closer and closer to the reality of awareness, it will be very easy to realize. Nowadays, most practitioners only do this much. Even if one realizes awareness, if one does not become accustomed to abiding in that state, experiences will not arise, and one will be the same as ordinary people. Not adapting to external circumstances, lacking the traces of practice, the Buddha did not say that one can attain enlightenment without practice. Even if one does not realize awareness, and is only accustomed to calm abiding, even if one can suppress conceptual thoughts and manifest some qualities, one does not understand the key to letting conceptual thoughts dissolve in their own place. Because of clinging, one is bound, thereby creating the root of samsara by accepting and rejecting. Therefore, knowing one's own nature and steadily becoming accustomed to it, these are the two legs of practice in terms of mind-nature. In terms of the meaning of reality, self-arisen luminosity, and the union of calm and insight, are naturally spontaneously accomplished from the beginning. Hundreds and thousands of sutras and tantras.
