Clinging to the place of taking and discarding, indulging deeply in desire, and desire is also subject to change. From change, detachment from attachment to the previous state of existence, just as detachment from desire when transferring from the desire realm to the form realm. What is detached from attachment is characterized by hatred, being unpleasant and wanting to abandon it. The nature of hatred is not to manifest that object, but to faint due to abandonment, and what is called fainting is ignorance that does not fully understand its own nature. Regarding this, previous great masters have also explained that due to hatred, consciousness faints in the semen and blood of the womb-born. Thus, in the mind, desire for what is wanted, hatred for what is unwanted, and ignorance that pervades indifference arise, which is ignorance that does not understand the true nature of things, a mental factor with clinging that is contrary to the wisdom of enlightenment, and is not merely without awareness like a garland of flowers in the sky. Therefore, ignorance regarding the meaning of unchanging bliss is affliction. From ignorance arises action, which is karma. From action arises consciousness, which is suffering, the first root of suffering. Thus, the first of the four stages of womb-birth is called the body, speech, and mind of the small stage. Thus, due to ignorance clinging to change, the body is held in the center of semen and blood, and then the action of life arises, thereby awakening consciousness. Therefore, the first stage of the twelve links of interdependence internally, these three are successively called body, speech, and mind. Then, from consciousness arises the stage of name and form, which is affliction. From name and form arise the six sense sources, which is karma. From the six sense sources arises contact, which is suffering, the body, speech, and mind of the middle stage. First, the body is formed, and the doors of each sense source are opened, becoming the path for the arising of life, and consciousness awakens to the object. Then, from contact arises feeling, which is affliction. From feeling arises craving, which is karma. From craving arises grasping, which is suffering, the body, speech, and mind of the third great stage, feeling arises through the doors of the six sense sources of the body, and wavering craving arises for it, and accepting it.

This is because of the arising of (desire) mind. From grasping arises existence, which is affliction. From existence arises birth, which is karma. From birth arises old age and death, which is suffering. This refers to the body, speech, and mind of the fourth great stage, that is, the basis for holding the body of existence is accomplished, and birth arises from the propelling of karmic winds, and the mind experiencing the nature of old age and death manifests. Thus, combining the limbs of dependent origination with the three of body, speech, and mind of the four stages, and the three of affliction, karma, and suffering, is because when sentient beings transmigrate in samsara due to the habits of transmigration, the subtle body, speech, and mind arise together, and the three of karma, affliction, and suffering are also complete in an inseparable manner. The key point of what is said here is very important and needs to be understood. The former is the basis and the latter is the dependent, showing how the extremely subtle three doors revolve by the power of the habits of transmigration. Therefore, even if the twelve months are not separately corresponded, there is no contradiction. Thus, the four stages are the nature of body, speech, mind, and wisdom, that is, the small stage is wisdom. Then, it gradually matures in the order of the stages of mind, speech, and body. The root of all these is only caused by the sudden movement of karmic winds, so if the three time wheels such as Aquarius are combined to symbolize conception in the womb, then holding the body in the womb, opening the door of the path of life, and the external distinction of awakening awareness to the external environment should be understood by these three. For example, the first month of conception for people is the time wheel Aquarius and dependent origination ignorance, which is the womb. The second month is Aquarius and formation, which is the door. The third month is Pisces and consciousness, which is the external environment. The nature of these three months is the small stage of those born from the womb. Then, the fourth month is Aries and name and form, which is the womb. The fifth month is Taurus and the six sense sources, which is the door. The sixth month is Gemini and contact, which is the external environment. The nature of these three months is the intermediate stage. Then, the seventh month is Cancer and feeling, which is the womb. The eighth month is Leo and craving, which is the door. The ninth month is Virgo and grasping, which is the external environment.
