Sapa refers to the state of being without mind, like when one is asleep. It does not manifest grasping and being grasped as it does when one is awake, but merely indicates that it abides in a subtle mind, not falling into any extreme. As it is said in the 'Nomenclature': 'Liberated from all remnants, well-abiding in the path of space, holding the great wish-fulfilling jewel, the all-pervading supreme of all jewels.' Like the appearance of emptiness, samsara, and nirvana, it is free from clinging to any side of duality, and the passing beyond sorrow without leaving any residue of the aggregates is the passing beyond sorrow of the perfectly enlightened Buddha. If the opponent, desiring to understand the meaning, argues that just as there is no material form in dreams, the appearance of the mind, which is not material, appears as an external object, this is due to the power of the mind's habitual tendencies. Even in the waking state, the appearance of one's own mind, which is not material, is not seen without material form, just as the image in a mirror requires a face or something similar to appear, and without it, the image cannot appear independently. In this waking state, the yogi's meditative appearance also becomes twofold, like the reflection of the moon in water. If there is a moon in the sky as the subject, then there is its reflection or attribute; without the subject, the moon's reflection cannot appear. Even so, this contemplation of emptiness and form by the yogi transcends the dream state, which lacks material form, transcends material form and conceptual thought, and transcends the three conditions arising from sudden causes. It is not a nihilistic emptiness, not the mind of the three realms, and what the yogi sees in the sky is not well-known in the world. Because if there is a material subject that creates form, then the form created by it must also exist, which is established by rational analysis. The Tathagata's statement that 'all phenomena are like illusions' refers to the fact that if one examines the collection and continuity of material phenomena, they appear like unreal illusions, but it does not refer to the appearance of something that is completely devoid of material form, which is seen through the illusion-like samadhi. To those who have such thoughts, I say that here, due to attachment to material phenomena, those with habitual tendencies towards material phenomena

It is not true to say that one will not see when the appearance of non-matter arises when there is no matter. Because on a divination mirror, when there is no matter, the appearance of non-matter is clearly seen. For example, by the power of mantras and the blessings of the deities, on a divination mirror, in the realm seen by a young girl, the appearances of past, present, and future phenomena arise unhindered. Those material phenomena of the past, future, and present do not appear directly on the mirror, and the material phenomena that create those forms do not necessarily have to exist now, because the past and future matter do not exist now. The young girl does not perceive those appearances through conceptual thought either. Even so, the appearance of those phenomena without matter is not impossible to arise, but it does appear. Similarly, yogis, through the power of the blessings of their own minds by meditating on practices such as the finger-mudra, see the appearances of the three realms in the sky, without the material phenomena of the nature of subtle particles. As the one hundred and ninety-eighth verse of the Sadhana Chapter says: "Mudras are like illusions, the mind and the sky are like reflections in a mirror." Thus, even without material phenomena, yogis will see non-material phenomena, which are the appearances of emptiness in all forms. Others think that the divination appearances seen by the young girl are seen through the power of the guru's mantras and the blessings of the deities, and that without mantras and blessings, they cannot be seen. Similarly, yogis see all kinds of forms in the realm of the sky through the kindness of the guru. These fools, who do not understand the key that the unobstructed appearance of self-radiance from the nature of primordial luminosity is manifested through the power of the path, cling only to the guru's words or mere phrases, and such thoughts arise. If the appearances arise in the young girl solely through the guru's kindness, through mantras and the blessings of the deities, then the guru himself should also be able to see those forms in the mirror, and he himself should be able to predict the past and future. Why would he need to ask a young girl with the ability to prophesy about hidden matters?
