As it is said, "The five great elements arise," the twenty-four, including the chief object of enjoyment, and the enjoyer, the intelligent Purusha, making twenty-five in all, are shown in this tantra through a different approach as the twenty-five realities that abide in the true meaning of things. Among these, the Samkhya school believes that the three qualities in equilibrium are the cause of all things, not entering the path of manifestation, and difficult to understand, which is called Prakriti or Pradhana. From this arises Buddhi or Mahat, which, like a double-sided mirror, connects Purusha and the objects. By its power, Purusha develops the pride of thinking, "I enjoy." From that cause arise sound, touch, form, taste, and smell, the five Tanmatras; eye, ear, nose, tongue, and body, the five sense organs; speech, hand, foot, anus, and genitals, the five organs of action, and mind, making sixteen in all. Among the sixteen, from the five Tanmatras, from space, which possesses only the quality of sound, up to earth, which possesses all five qualities, arise the five great elements. Thus, Pradhana is only on the side of Prakriti, and Buddhi, Ahamkara, and the five Tanmatras, making seven in all, are on the side that belongs to both Prakriti and Vikriti. The remaining sixteen are only on the side of Vikriti, and Purusha is on the side that is neither Prakriti nor Vikriti, so it is believed. Thus, the twenty-four, including Pradhana, are the objects and things to be enjoyed, and Purusha is the enjoyer and eater, so it is believed. In this tantra, Pradhana or Prakriti is the state of the fourth Dhyana, and Mahat or Buddhi is not like the view of the Tirthikas, but is Vijnana. Ahamkara is said to be the one who grasps at self. The terms for mind, the five elements, and the five senses, such as the five senses and the five objects, are retained and used in common, and the supreme sense organ is added and spoken of. That is, the five objects or the five Tanmatras, such as sound, do not give rise to the five elements. How? As before, in the Dhatu section, Prakriti is the time of the fourth Dhyana, that is, the space element. The bliss of Samapatti, the worldly fourth Dhyana, the three qualities of Rajas, Tamas, and Sattva in equilibrium, the Alaya like space, there the name of Prakriti or Pradhana is established, so there, space is included, and even if the supreme sense organ is added, it does not exceed twenty-four.
