If someone asks: Doesn't this refutation fall into nihilism, because it denies both cause and effect, thereby adhering to the tenet of complete emptiness? Answer: No. Because depending on the phenomenon of dependent origination, whatever appears from whatever, that which appears is designated as cause and effect. Because in relation to the cause, it is the effect, and in relation to the effect, it is the cause, it is merely a designation, dependent on others. Therefore, both cause and effect, which are established by dependence, can exist conventionally, so it will not fall into the assertion that both cause and effect do not exist. Therefore, there is not even a little bit of cause and effect that is truly established, or established by essence or nature, but the appearance of cause and effect that is dependently designated is infallible and will never cease. Only designation, without inherent existence, allows for all causal relationships. If it is not merely designation, but cause and effect are established by their own essence, then all causal relationships become impossible. Thus, because of dependence on others, both will become causes, and so on. Regarding these consequences, some say that this is explained as a way of presenting arguments that mutual dependence is unreasonable from the perspective of the opponent who admits that cause and effect are not merely dependently designated, but are established by their own essence. Others say that all of these are inferences made to refute the view that does not accept that cause and effect are merely dependently designated. According to the first explanation, if both cause and effect are admitted to be the cause of mutual establishment, then, because both are causes, there is no effect. If there is no effect, then there is no cause either. Because a cause cannot be established as a cause by its own essence without depending on the effect, it necessarily falls into the uncertainty that everything is a cause. Because of that uncertainty, it will become not a cause. Therefore, not only Ishvara, but all other causes will be established as uncertain and not causes. Therefore, cause and effect are not merely established by dependence, but whatever is a cause is a cause by its own essence, and the effect is also established as an effect by its own essence, is that so? The answer to that is: Here it is explained as an answer to your "etc." According to the latter explanation, both the earth and the sprout are causes that mutually designate cause and effect, therefore, there is no effect that is not dependently designated, because it does not exist.

If it is not established in dependence on something else, there is no cause. Thus, since the cause must be established in dependence on the result, it becomes not necessarily a cause of its own nature. Because it is not necessarily a cause of its own nature, it becomes that the independent Ishvara and others are not the true cause of creating all the worlds. Through this, it is explained by reasoning that all causes such as Ishvara are not necessarily causes of their own nature, nor are they independent causes. In short, merely by establishing cause and effect in dependence, the meaning of cause and effect cannot be understood. If it is said that the cause is established by the nature of the cause, and the result is established by the nature of the result or by its own nature, if the cause and effect are established by their own nature through reason, then it is admitted. However, here reason can never establish it, so you, the proponent of reality, think that it is established merely by your own wish. I say that it is not established by my reason, which is very unreasonable or unbearable. If merely by wish, your cause and effect can be established as existing by their own nature, then I can also establish that non-existence by its own nature is also established by my wish. If that is the case, everything will be established merely by their respective wishes, and there is no need for reason or it must be established by completely abandoning reason, which is very unreasonable. The opponent said: Based on the trustworthy scriptures, this vow, if the vow is not established, it cannot be said to be a vow, the treatises and reasonings all say this. The meaning of this sentence is: Regarding the words of the vow spoken by the trustworthy scriptures, it cannot be said that it is not established, because it is spoken by the scriptures. The Sanskrit word for vow is Samaya The "Immortal Treasury" says: Samaya (藏文:ས་མ་ཡ་,梵文天城体:समय,梵文罗马拟音:samaya,汉语字面意思:vow) equally practices as it is, laws and other things are also extensively taught, the edge of accomplishment and perfection, symbols and times and stars, etc. Like this, it has many meanings, here it means the established tenet. It seems to say: Based on the trustworthy scriptures, regarding this tenet, it cannot be said that it is not established as it is. This is said in the discussion of Dharma Lord Bu. Therefore, the materialists who merely follow the scriptures, regarding the opponent whom they see directly.
