The ear possesses two thousand merits, the nose eight hundred, the tongue two thousand, the body eight hundred, and the mind two thousand. With these numerous hundreds of merits, the six faculties become purified, entirely and completely pure. The ordinary fleshly eyes born of one’s parents, by this transformation become purified eyes, able to behold the three-thousandfold great-thousand world, its interior and exterior, mountains, rocks, and dense forests, up to the summit of existence and the limitless beyond. They see all beings born therein, and also know the maturation of their karmic deeds. Likewise, the ear endowed with two thousand merits hears all sounds within this great-thousand world, and knows the karmic maturation that follows such sounds. Thus are obtained such merits of eyes and ears—not as the divine eyes and ears, but through practice. Likewise, the nose perceives all fragrances, and no mixture of scents can disturb its faculty. It can also discern treasures within the earth, the abodes of gods where sons and daughters of devas dwell, and knows where Buddhas and Śrāvakas abide. Again, with the tongue faculty, all flavors tasted transform into sublime divine ambrosia, and all unpleasant flavors are never experienced. When Dharma is expounded amidst an assembly, the faculties of beings are satisfied, filled with joy; the sound is profound, delightful to the mind, soothing, entering the heart, bringing happiness, making beings greatly rejoice. Then the gods, such as Brahmā, Śakra, and the sons of purity, all come, beholding and bowing, listening to the Dharma. Likewise, humans and non-humans all aspire in this way, wishing to hear the Dharma. The Buddhas, the Blessed Ones, also desire to behold and turn toward this side, teaching the Dharma. The śrāvaka disciples likewise approach. Their bodies become purified, like that of Vairocana, and upon seeing, joy arises. Thus throughout the great-thousand world, all manner of beings manifest to perception. The śrāvakas, pratyekabuddhas, and bodhisattvas also appear likewise.

Those Tathagatas who abide in the great thousand worlds, and all who attend to and honor them, appear in their own bodies, because their bodies are completely pure. Those whose minds are completely pure, even if they hear only one verse, understand its many meanings, and preach the Dharma for a month, four months, or even a year, and they will not forget whatever Dharma they preach. All worldly terms, languages, and mantras are in accordance with the principles of the Dharma. In this great thousand world, the sentient beings of the six realms of samsara, all the movements, thoughts, and elaborations of their minds, are also fully understood. Even if one has not attained the wisdom of the noble ones, the mind can still become completely pure in this way. All the words that are spoken after contemplating the definitions of the Dharma can be revealed, all the secrets of the Tathagatas, and all the categories of sutras taught by the Buddhas of the past can be explained. Thus and so on. The benefits of holding this sutra in the body or writing it in a book should be consulted in the sutra itself. Furthermore, among all the sutras spoken by all the Tathagatas, this Dharma category of the White Lotus of the Good Dharma is the most excellent. Bodhisattva Mahasattva Samantabhadra, surrounded by countless Bodhisattva retinues, came from the presence of the Tathagata Jewel Majesty Manifest Supreme King in the east, with inconceivable miraculous transformations, to this Saha world, to Vulture Peak Mountain, before the Blessed One Shakyamuni Buddha, to listen to the Dharma category of the White Lotus of the Good Dharma. The Blessed One said: Sons of good family, Bodhisattvas Mahasattvas, merely mentioning their names is enough to understand. This Dharma category of the White Lotus of the Good Dharma is just like this: it is non-different from suchness, the true limit, and the realm of Dharma. Having said this, the Bodhisattvas replied: It is indeed so. If one knows that the realm of Dharma, suchness, and the true limit of all dharmas are equal, then...
