Having known the unborn Dharma, it is the supreme of all crafts. Having heard this Dharma, one obtains the forbearance of the unborn Dharma in that direction. Furthermore, there was a king named Righteous Wise, who, through the ways of outsiders, became one who was detached from desire and compassionate towards the world. He searched in the forest, thinking, "For the benefit of myself and others, what are the six tastes?" The gods of the forest, with palms joined, said, "The taste of this tree is such, and the taste of that tree is such." Thereafter, he investigated the causes of all diseases, such as wind, bile, phlegm, and their combinations. He became skilled in the medical treatments that combined their antidotes. He divided diseases into three Furthermore, there was a king named Fire Offering, who was skilled in understanding the sounds of all beings and contemplating their meanings. When he heard any sound, he knew its meaning. If he heard this sound, he would think, "Why is this sound being made? Why is it being made at this time? Is it speaking, or is it not speaking?" Thus, in all that he knew, he could follow strength and non-strength. For all actions, he would act with the knowledge of sound, knowing whether it had ceased, or had not ceased, or had done a little and ceased, or had not done a little. "At what point will this person become a vessel of wisdom? At what point will they be able to pacify afflictions?" Thus, having obtained such knowledge, he became the teacher of all beings in Jambudvipa. Furthermore, there was a master named Righteous Wisdom, who was skilled in resolving the disputes of sentient beings. He could know victory and defeat merely by the words of their respective arguments. His conduct of body and mind was beautiful, and merely seeing him would captivate the eyes. He would resolve and pacify all disputes based on Dharma and non-Dharma through logical reasoning, and he obtained great wisdom.

Thus, by the power of wisdom, he entered into correct dwelling in solitude. With the divine eye he beheld the death and rebirth of beings, and realized: “So it is that beings circulate in the world.” Through the examination of wisdom, he saw that there is no real coming or going, like the reflection of the moon in water. Understanding this meaning, he taught it to many beings, enabling them to realize the true nature of reality. Again, the sage named “One Who Clearly Teaches Dharma” possessed wisdom, clarity, and skill in analysis, becoming one who reflects for the sake of beings. He, too, entered into true dwelling in seclusion, and proclaimed the fourteen non-doctrines. By means of meditation and reasoning, he investigated the sixty-two wrong views concerning what is taken as prior and later, seeing that these views depend on the basis of mistaken grasping. Perceiving that the so-called “self as basis” does not exist, he shattered them all with reasoning, and through the correct path he proclaimed the Dharma, establishing countless beings on the irreversible path. Again, the sage named “Unobstructed Wisdom” accomplished great miraculous powers, becoming detached through the external path. At that time, when investigating, if there truly were existence, views would arise; if there were no such existence, then views would not arise. Thus, when examined, if the threefold mass of ignorance remains, then views arise, and dependent arising is seen. What are these three? Speculation whether a self existed or did not exist in the past; likewise regarding present and future, conjecturing and doubting. Because of not realizing the truth, various views proliferated. But by examining in accordance with reality, the eye of wisdom arose. He discerned that here there is no self or being, only afflictions giving rise to karma, and from karma the aggregates of results. He saw the profound law of dependent origination, and realized that apart from conditions, no dharma arises or ceases. By gaining patience with the fact of non-arising, he entered into the true meaning that living beings are without essence. Again, the sage named “Skillful Wisdom” attained great miraculous powers of detachment, and while dwelling correctly within, he thought: “Alas! This world is nothing but afflictions, yet beings do not truly know that suffering surely arises from suffering.” And again he reflected: “Surely suffering arises from suffering, yet beings fail to awaken to it.”
