This elephant king should be tamed. He said, "I shall recite the mantra spoken by the sage and hook it with an iron hook, but neither iron hooks nor snares nor iron chains can cut off the mind of desire. How does the pain of desire arise, in what ways does it increase, and in what ways does it subside?" Having spoken thus, although the elephant was turned back in every place, it could not be turned back. At that time, he said to the king, "Your Majesty, this elephant, because of its confusion, is holding onto a tree branch." After that, the king and the tamer both held onto the branch of the tree and stayed there. After they had escaped from danger a little, the king said to the tamer, "Have you given me an elephant that you have not tamed?" He said, "Your Majesty, it is very well tamed, but it does not listen because it smells the scent of a female elephant in the forest. Even so, it will remember the taming and will soon return." After that, the elephant, after seven days, was free from intoxication, remembered the taming, and returned to its place and stayed there. After that, the tamer quickly said to the king. The king said, "Have you not tamed this?" He said, "It is tamed, but in what way shall I show it before Your Majesty?" He took an iron hammer that had been burned with coal fire to the place of taming and began to have it taken, and he also began to take it without fear. The tamer said, "Your Majesty, if it can be taken, even if it is taken, it will die." The king said, "Alas! Wise one, what is the reason that this very well-tamed one causes us to be negligent? Your Majesty, did we not previously request that the body be tamed, but not the mind? I am taming the body, but not taming the mind." The king said, "Have you seen or heard of anyone who tames the mind?" The tamer, urged by the deity, said, "Your Majesty, there are Buddhas, the Bhagavat, who tame the body and the mind." To destroy the faults arising from desire, Though many strive to do so, Knowing that it is not possible, Diligence diminishes and turns back. Such verses as these, I, with various means, tame such an elephant with excellent form and complete beauty. The king is not one with form, but the subtle mind,

Let Rangsong Chaklung Tsalwa be untamed, etc. The great king, the great Buddha, the hero who has abandoned afflictions, the one with power, and those who follow him and those like him, their power transforms the formless mind here. Then, the radiant king, having heard of the diligence and power of the Bhagavat, gave alms and accumulated merit, and made the aspiration to attain the unsurpassed perfect enlightenment: "By this vast generosity, may I become a self-born Buddha in samsara, and deliver the beings who were not delivered by the previous kings." etc. Thus he spoke, and initially generated the unsurpassed perfect Bodhicitta and made aspirations. In other Jataka tales, the kings Rabnang and Rabsel are mentioned, which appear to be different names. Thereafter, having generated the unsurpassed perfect Bodhicitta, in response to the question of which perfect Buddha was first offered alms, it was said: "In the past, the Bhagavat himself lived in the vast city and became the potter Vast Light, and then the Bhagavat Buddha named Shakyamuni came into the world, and his two supreme disciples were Shariputra and Maudgalyayana, and the attendant was Ananda. That Buddha, surrounded by a Sangha of monks, traveled through the vast city, and the Buddha was afflicted with a severe bile disease, so he instructed Ananda: 'Bring me ghee, sesame oil, and jaggery water from the potter Vast Light.' Ananda spoke to the potter, and the potter Vast Light, with his son, brought ghee, sesame oil, and jaggery water. The Bhagavat anointed his body with ghee and sesame oil, bathed gently, and drank the jaggery water, and the Buddha's illness was relieved and he recovered. Then, the potter touched the Buddha's feet and made the aspiration: 'May I also, by this generosity, become a Buddha born of the Shakya clan, possessing merits, lineage, and ancestry, and may I deliver the miserable beings from the Brahma world to death, to the other shore, and attain vast peace and fearlessness.' His son also made the aspiration: 'May I also do this.'"
