There is no contradiction. However, Gyatpaksha only generated a mind of loving-kindness, and the middle of the three boys, upon seeing the Buddha, offered a necklace of mani jewels with a mind of joyful faith, and prayed to become such a Buddha. King Light-Victorious and the potter Wide-Light, more than the previous two, knew the qualities of the Buddha, and with a strong desire and faith, aspired to become a Buddha and prayed, and the merchant's son was the same. These entering into aspiration, etc., have different views on the various stages of generating the mind of enlightenment, but it is difficult to determine the order of these definitively from how the sutra itself clarifies. In any case, this way of initially generating the mind also became better and more stable. When the Brahmin Ocean-Dust generated the mind, with strong faith in the Great Vehicle, he placed many other beings in the Great Vehicle, and it is evident that he deliberately chose an impure realm with great compassion as the initial generation of the mind. Therefore, it may be that Manjushri initially planted the seed of guiding the generation of the mind of unsurpassed enlightenment, thereby awakening the lineage of the Great Vehicle, and then these appeared in sequence. Or, there is no contradiction if the boy prayed to become a Buddha, or Gyatpaksha initially generated a mind of loving-kindness, and then the merchant's son, etc., appeared in sequence, but if there is no clear statement from the scriptures, it is difficult to judge solely by reason. Therefore, no matter how the order of the former is arranged, with regard to the meaning of initially speaking of generating the mind, it seems that there is no contradiction due to the differences in each stage. In general, even if one makes a single prayer with the intention of attaining Buddhahood, focusing on the Buddha, it will surely ripen into unsurpassed enlightenment and will not be wasted. For example, even the generation of the mind of enlightenment due to the influence of evil demons was prophesied to become a Buddha. However, until one attains the noble stage, especially in the stage of the initial practitioner, even if the seed of the mind of enlightenment has not been lost, it is possible that due to encountering adverse conditions, the stream of the mind of enlightenment may not arise continuously in lifetime after lifetime, and may even be forgotten in some lifetimes. Therefore, in general, there is instability and stability.

This arose through that power. Moreover, although the great Bodhisattvas do not turn back, at that time there are various ways such as not yet receiving prediction. As it is stated in the Sutra of the Expansion of Wisdom: by the power of the being, the son of Maukila, the Blessed Buddhas taught the Dharma. Likewise, in the Sutra of the Samadhi of Heroic Progress it is said: to one who has not yet generated bodhicitta, a prophecy is given; to one who has just generated it, a prophecy is given; in secret a prophecy is given; and after attaining patience, manifestly a prophecy is given—thus the four modes of prophecy should be understood. As explained above, one should generate such a mind, and following the discipline of the foundation of virtues arisen from the measureless Buddha, cultivate accordingly. In the beginning of countless kalpas, from the Buddha Shakyamuni onward, among the eight deeds of guiding beings and protecting realms, I made offerings to seventy-five thousand Buddhas. Of the infinite number, one set has passed; I have made offerings to those Victorious Ones. For the sake of attaining Buddhahood, I have no discouraged mind. In the second infinite period, when the Buddha Dīpaṃkara appeared, among the Banner of Power of the Sage, I made offerings to seventy-six thousand Buddhas. Until the second infinite was complete, I offered to them all. In those births and lives, I had no discouraged mind. In the third infinite period, when the Buddha Suprabha appeared, I venerated and made offerings. Among the Buddhas Light-Protector, I made offerings to seventy-seven thousand Buddhas. In that third infinite period also, I made offerings to them all. For the sake of enlightenment, in practicing conduct, I had no discouraged mind. As a Bodhisattva, I offered to those supreme Buddhas. Those guides of the world all declared me to be a Buddha. Whatever aspirations I previously conceived, I have now fulfilled. I offered to all Buddhas, and in turn gathered in all sentient beings. Furthermore, the venerable Ananda asked, and the Buddha extensively explained the way of offering to the Buddhas. What was spoken there was but the general stages of offering. The Blessed Ones themselves, in the presence of countless, immeasurable Buddhas beyond thought, established the roots of virtue.
