Thus, karmic fruition is accomplished; knowing its root lies in clinging to self, one attains the forbearance of selflessness and leads countless beings to enter this path. Again, when the sage was called Skilled in Ceasing Abodes, he understood that because beings did not realize the natureless dharmas, they suffered greatly, and thus he entered into guiding countless beings. Again, when the king was called Earth Holder, he realized that many beings did not perceive suffering, and knowing it was caused by sinful karma, he taught: “Do not cling strongly to the body, and abandon the perception of impurity.” By teaching thus, he led countless beings to enter the irreversible path. Again, when previously the Bodhisattva was of weak mental strength, he approached the Tathāgata, the Nectar-essence Jewel King, and obtained the forbearance regarding the meaning that all dharmas are without arising and ceasing, for which the Tathāgata praised him as excellent. Again, when the sage was called Wise and Courageous, he comprehended all treatises without fear. He knew that if defilements do not arise, they will surely cease, and thus he entered into the practice of cutting off the aggregates, elements, sense-bases, and faculties as ultimate truths. Knowing this essential point, he practiced what is the work of the wise. From afflictions arises karma, and from karma comes fruition. By cutting off the root, afflictions no longer arise, and thus the stream of existence is severed. Reflecting thus, rising from samādhi, he exclaimed: “Ah! By destroying this root there is peace.” Uttering this three times, his voice resounded in the four directions. I moved without hindrance; countless beings, upon hearing, entered into the path of destroying the root of afflictions, and did not turn back from unsurpassed perfect enlightenment. Again, when the sage was called Universal Eye, whichever gate or place he observed, he abided repeatedly. From there he examined the bases of sentient beings’ fabrications, and understood that for the sake of beings’ welfare, they cultivated unwholesome actions and wholesome but contaminated actions, thus being born in higher realms or evil destinies. To transcend suffering, they cultivated uncontaminated virtue, which is not a cause of saṃsāra. Rising from this concentration, he realized that in all dharmas there is nothing to be done—this is peace. This is the meaning.

Then, proclaiming the sound "without intrinsic nature," we heard it carried in the four directions, and we obtained forbearance of non-arising, becoming irreversible from unsurpassed enlightenment. Furthermore, in the past, there was a king named Following All Beings. He was skilled in observing the faculties of beings. To those beings who were tormented by attachment to form and inclined to fall into the lower realms, he thought, "They are attached to impure bodies and do not know that they wander in samsara." Therefore, he taught them the Dharma of impurity. When beings developed faith in impurity and cultivated the nature of all phenomena, countless beings were freed from desire and were born in the Brahma world. Furthermore, in the past, there was a hermit named Established in Dharma, who, through the path of non-Buddhists, became a person free from desire. Knowing the outflows of desire, like reflections in a mirror, he knew that things were not real and manifested the five clairvoyances, placing countless beings in such forbearance. Furthermore, the hermits Uddaka and Data, who were great in magical power, might, and splendor, thought, "What is superior and more excellent than these Dharmas that I have realized?" When they investigated, they realized that what they had realized was subject to cessation. "That which does not cease is the most excellent. Whatever arises is subject to cessation, and whatever does not arise does not cease. What is it that does not arise?" When they thought about it, they realized that "all phenomena are not born by their own nature, but are separate from their own nature." Thus, by properly examining each aspect, they obtained forbearance of the meaning of non-arising and placed countless beings in it. Furthermore, the hermit Vipashyana Practitioner, who was a non-Buddhist free from desire and possessed great magical powers, when he examined the cause and nature of the arising of the outflows of desire, realized selflessness and also obtained the five clairvoyances, placing countless beings in that forbearance. Furthermore, when he was the son of the chief, Chandana, he thought, "In this way, even if one grasps a little something on the path or in nirvana, one cannot manifest complete enlightenment. Therefore, in all places, one should know the path and be without any attachment. Thus..."
