Then mix the ink. Having stripped the bone and made it into a pen, he joined his palms to the deity. When he prayed for the deity to reveal the verses, that deity of the demon race, seeing the great sage's such eagerness and reverence, felt ashamed and immediately vanished. That great sage, realizing that he had vanished, thought, "Even if I have not heard those verses, the merit of making paper, ink, and pen in this way with reverence for the Dharma will not be wasted, nor will it be deceived." However, with my unwavering good intention, and with a compassionate heart for all sentient beings, disregarding my body and life, having made skin into paper and so forth in this way, by the truth of my reverence for the Dharma and the truthful words, may any great master who dwells in this world or others, preaching and teaching the Dharma, reveal their face to me and allow me to hear the Dharma." As soon as he spoke, at that very moment, from below, passing thirty-two Buddha-fields from this Buddha-field, in a realm called the Immaculate World, a Tathagata named the King Renowned as Immaculate Light was living and teaching the Dharma. He understood the extraordinary intention of that great sage, and seeing that he was also maturing the sentient beings of Jambudvipa, he led five hundred bodhisattvas, with great light pervading, and went before that sage, and a great rain of flowers fell. From all the branches, leaves, fruits, and flowers of the trees in that forest, the sound of teaching the Dharma arose naturally. At that time, countless billions of gods gathered together. As soon as the sage's body was touched by the Buddha's light, it returned to its former state, without wounds, and radiant. That sage prostrated at the Buddha's feet, circumambulated him, and with palms joined, said, "Bhagavan, you are my teacher. I take refuge in the Buddha, Dharma, and Sangha. Please teach me the Dharma so that I may dispel the darkness of the wrong views of sentient beings and teach the Dharma of attaining right view." The Tathagata began to speak to that assembly, beginning with the samadhi of gathering all merits.

From the earth the Dharma was proclaimed, and furthermore the eight verses of Vajra, the eight verses of the Dharma Gate, and the eight verses of the Seed were also taught. Thus the supreme sage possessed unwavering courage, unfailing mindfulness, and was fully upheld by the gods, thereby defeating the opposition of Māra. He taught the Dharma for a thousand years in every village and city, ripening countless sentient beings, and was born in the pure, stainless, and renowned Buddha-field of the Victorious One. In essence, the expansion should be understood as the meditative concentration that gathers all merits. Furthermore, in the past, the Tathāgata, who had become a King turning the Dharma wheel, also in this mountain of the herd of beasts, countless Buddhas without number, for eons and hundreds of thousands of kalpas, were honored with flowers, incense, banners, canopies, various music, and resplendent jeweled halls, with countless arrangements of offerings, all made in worship. Thus, this concentration of the Dharma, the equality of all phenomena, free from elaboration, was heard extensively, upheld, written, read, meditated upon, and rightly taught to others. The last among those Buddhas was the one known as the King of Śāla, who lived for seventy-six thousand years. During eighty thousand years he was honored with divine incense and jeweled halls, then gradually renounced and went forth, abiding in this meditative concentration for one hundred and forty thousand years, writing, reading, meditating, and widely teaching others. Moreover, for the sake of this concentration, there was no prior act of giving away the head, limbs, wives, children, wealth, or food. Yet billions of Buddhas, surpassing even the number of grains of the Ganges, abided in this very mountain of the herd of beasts, teaching this concentration, and were all called Śākyamuni. Their supreme qualities, pairings, and stages were likewise consistent with disciples such as Śāriputra today. All these arose in the time of degeneration, and having heard this concentration, practiced it diligently. Furthermore, countless Buddhas with limitless voices and renowned sounds proclaimed this concentration.
