Having gained the reputation of a wise person through learning, he revered his parents like gods, and also taught his younger brothers knowledge like a teacher and father, behaving virtuously, and abiding in the home. After a long time, their parents passed away, and after dispelling the grief, he said to his younger brothers: Although I wish to live together for a long time, the great sorrow of separation due to death is inevitable for all in this world. I wish to renounce, so may you abide in the home according to the Dharma. Hearing these words, the younger brothers' eyes filled with tears, saying: On top of the sorrow of our parents, will you also abandon us? Wherever you go, we will also go. So the six younger brothers and sister also, for the same reason, abandoned the great wealth of their home, friends, and family, and renounced in the forest of asceticism. The close male and female servants also renounced following them. In that vast monastery forest, by the side of a large lake filled with flowers, they each built separate leaf huts not close to each other, and devoted themselves to meditation. They gathered before the Bodhisattva with five supernatural powers to listen to the Dharma, and in order to enter the secret of meditation, he taught the faults of desire, the praise of solitude and contentment, the faults of laziness, and the qualities of faith and other virtues. Their female servant, being respectful and close, took lotus roots from the lake, divided them equally on large lotus leaves, announced the time with the sound of a pestle, and then returned. Those ascetics, having completed the rituals of recitation and fire offering, the elders went one by one, took the lotus roots in order, and ate them in their respective huts according to the ritual, and with focused minds devoted themselves to meditation. Except for the time of listening to the Dharma, they did not visit each other. They, with such discipline and conduct, immersed in the joy of extreme solitude and meditation, became greatly renowned, which was heard by Indra, the king of the gods, who went to examine them, and seeing their conduct, The lotus root, as white as an elephant calf's tusk, is the merit of a Bodhisattva.

After the maidservant returned, she disappeared. The Bodhisattva went to that place and saw that there was no lotus root in the original place, and the lotus leaves were messy and disordered. He thought, 'Has my lotus root been taken by someone?' Without anger or mental disturbance, he returned to the leaf hut and meditated properly. He thought that the other hermits might be displeased, so he did not speak. The other younger brothers thought, 'He has already taken his share,' so they each took their share, ate in the hut, and meditated. Similarly, on the second, third, fourth, and even the fifth day, his share was hidden, but his mind was calm and not disturbed. In the evening, the hermits came to him in order to listen to his teachings. They saw that his body was thin, his cheeks and eyes were sunken, his complexion was poor, his voice was weak, and his body was weak, but his steadfast and peaceful virtues were growing. They asked, 'What is wrong?' He explained what had happened. Then, those ascetics said, 'Such an unreasonable thing is impossible.' They were displeased and showed their ugly faces. Because of these words, he bowed his head in shame and stayed there. Because the object of entering knowledge was obscured by the power of hundreds of thousands of gods, they did not know what caused it. Then, the younger brother of the Bodhisattva, in order to show that his mind was pure and undefiled, made a special vow: 'Brahmin, who holds your root? May you be with a family adorned with signs of wealth, and may you find a desirable wife, and may you be with sons and grandsons.' The younger brother said: 'Brahmin, who holds your root? May you have garlands, necklaces, sandalwood, fine clothes, and ornaments touched by your son, and may you enjoy inexhaustible wealth.' Another said: 'Who holds your root? May you find wealth and grain from plowing the fields, and may you be very happy with your sons and words. May you not care about life and be happy at home.' Another said: 'Whoever took your root out of greed, may the king, who behaves like a slave, be revered with the topknot, and may he be complete with the manners of a king.'
