Thus, he reverted back to his own vow, and following the previous verses, even in the golden Oṭṭala abode, delusion arose through the desire for offspring. This was an offering in accordance with Dharma, so that the Buddhas would continuously and eternally give rise to noble sons. Then, surveying all causes, the Blessed One went to that place and spoke these words: ‘My daughter, adorned with noble beauty and ornaments, intent upon seeking the purpose of desire, I offer her to you. Regard her, as one beholds the full moon on the sixteenth night of autumn, and be joyful with her.’ Then the Blessed One reflected: ‘If I utter words that imply attachment to lust, she will be tormented by craving and will act accordingly, therefore I shall speak words of anger.’ The Blessed One said: ‘Brahmin, I see the daughter of Māra, delighting in lust, a pleasure-seeker. Yet even to those defeated by desire, she does not always yield. Because I have not generated a mind of craving, for this emaciated, withered body, even if touched with my foot, no joy would arise.’ ‘Woman, your daughter’s limbs are ruined, deprived of the virtues of desire—do you see? Why is it that though she has a form attractive to lustful minds, you do not respond with strong desire?’ Again the Blessed One declared: ‘Brahmin, a deluded one becomes attached to realms, and it is by this daughter that clinging arises, entering into anger. This is the nature of the greatly deluded—they do not abandon craving. But I am the Buddha, the supreme one, the sovereign of power, I have attained the unsurpassed enlightenment of peace. Just as a lotus is not stained by water, just as the blue utpala lotus within the water is not drenched by it, so too am I in the world, engaging with desires only through a liberated mind.’ Having spoken thus, the Blessed One, with words such as ‘emaciated’ and ‘withered’, rebuked her. Then she was separated from delight, unbound by lust, yet seized by aversion, her bones became like dry sticks, and her two eyes resembled withered shoots. At that time, an elder was present, and he entreated the Blessed One: ‘O All-seeing One, please accept this woman.’

Thus. World-Honored One, please quickly grant it to me. Warrior, I will use this adorned with arrogance, and I will enjoy it lawfully in every way. Thus he requested. Then, the World-Honored One said: "Foolish one, do not stand before me, leave this place." He became angry and said: "May your bowl and robe, and this jujube seed, all be exhausted. How are these precepts not like mothers? Cherish them as if holding a young child." Having said this, he abandoned the precepts and entered the path of decline, seeking out heretics. At the place of a heretic mother, he said: "Please give me this unparalleled mother." The heretic mother angrily said: "Old man, I would not even allow you to look, let alone touch." He became enraged, vomited blood, and died, falling into the hell of evil destinies. At that time, the monks asked: "What is the reason why he did not marry the blacksmith's daughter in the past? And why did this old monk in the past rely on the unparalleled mother, and with his consorts and retinue, experience unlawful suffering?" The World-Honored One told the story of the merchant leader Simhala. The king Simhalabahu at that time was this old monk. At that time, the heretic mother took the unparalleled mother to Kaushambi. Hearing of this, King Sharpa fell in love at first sight, took her as his consort, and gave her half of the palace flower garden. He provided offerings for five hundred people, and every day he gave five hundred karshapanas worth of incense and garlands, and he appointed the heretic mother as a minister. At that time, the unparalleled mother burned the palace of the blue lotus consort and her retinue, and although she committed many evils, she did not fall from the position of consort. At that time, the younger sister of the blue lotus consort, named Glorious Woman, became the consort of King Sharpa. The Venerable Shariputra taught her the Dharma, and when she saw the truth. Based on this, the World-Honored One taught: "These seven words are inviolable: the words of the Tathagata, the perfectly enlightened Buddha, the words of the Arhat, the one who has exhausted defilements, the words of the elders of the Sangha, the words of those who have taken vows, the words of the preceptor and the teacher, and the words of the king, the Kshatriya, who has been empowered from the crown of his head." Furthermore, the World-Honored One himself was once a merchant leader.
