If this tree has saved you, (I) said not to cut this tree, but (they) did not listen. Because they did not want to see good things, after (I) left first, the evildoers and others cut the roots of that tree. After that, five hundred Rakshasas appeared and ate all the merchants, including the evildoers. Bodhisattvas always protect the words they have spoken to sentient beings without deceiving them, even if they give up their entire bodies. In the past, countless eons ago, this Bhagavan became a lion named Lion Limb Not Inferior, following the love for all sentient beings, eating roots, leaves, fruits, and flowers, and living in a mountain cave that was difficult to enter. There lived two monkeys, and after some time they had two children, entrusting them to the lion. The two male and female monkeys went to forage. There, a vulture king named Hair grabbed the two baby monkeys and stayed in the sky above. The lion saw this and said in verse: Release those two children who have come to me for refuge. The vulture said: King of beasts, if you abandon me, I will release them. Otherwise, even if you are angry, what can I do if I eat these two and fly into the sky? The king of beasts said: I abandon you, let you eat me, please release these two baby monkeys. Entering the Bodhi path, guarding vows, not speaking falsely, abandoning the body for the sake of sentient beings. The vulture saw such a strange thing, released the two baby monkeys, and said: King of beasts, do not abandon your body either, and then left. At that time, the monkey couple were Light Increase and Golden Good Woman, Rahula and Ananda were the baby monkeys, and the virtuous Bhikshu Garland was the vulture king Hair at that time, so it was said. Also, in the past, when this Bhagavan and Dipankara Buddha became two of the most excellent Dharma-speaking children in Jambudvipa, after renouncing and living alone in the forest, being proficient in poetry and all treatises, and having attained meditation and supernatural powers, they taught the Dharma to the king of hunting beasts named Elephant King and his sixty billion retinue, guiding them towards Bo

Thereupon, he generated the mind of enlightenment. At that time, many monks with strong desires said to the two preachers, "These are nihilistic heretics, teaching that the aggregates are originally nonexistent, and that karma and its maturation are destroyed. Kill them!" They urged the king to do so. When the king was somewhat doubtful, a goddess who had previously enjoyed pleasures with the king and followed him said to the king with words of evil companionship, "Do not generate such thoughts. These two are true preachers of the Dharma. Remember the Dharma they taught before, and do not abandon them." Having said this, the king reflected on her words and did not abandon the teachings of the Victorious One. The king's younger brother, the cruel and difficult-to-approach king, was urged by those evil companions to "Kill these two monks who travel in the sky by means of mantras." He then deployed an army to kill them, but the nagas and yakshas who lived in the forest drove them back with a rain of stones and bricks, and mocked them. When the cruel king was about to die, due to the sin of being angry with the preachers, he was born in Avici hell for sixty kalpas. Those many monks with specific views who cursed and expelled the king experienced the suffering of sentient beings in hell for hundreds of millions of incalculable kalpas. The goddess who urged the king and protected the preachers saw as many Buddhas as there are grains of sand in the Ganges, made offerings and enjoyed pleasures, and the sixty kotis of beings who heard the Dharma and generated the mind of enlightenment together with the king became Buddhas in other realms. The king who heard the Dharma was Maitreya, the goddess who benefited others was Youthful Moonlight, and the king's younger brother, the cruel one, was Devadatta. Thus it was said. Furthermore, in the past, when the Tathagata named King of Bliss appeared in the world, this Jambudvipa was vast, measuring ninety hundred thousand yojanas, and all eighty-four thousand great cities were made of the seven precious substances, as prosperous as the realm of the gods. The Bhagavan himself became a great and righteous king named King Dana.
