In some versions, there seem to be some textual errors in places such as the eighty-four Indras. Similarly, in this chapter of the Jataka tales, there are some slight differences, which should be understood as having been written after comparing the extensive and abridged Sutra sections. The first of the thirty-six Indras, the one who "I am inferior to him, yet I seize half of his seat," is the monk Kashyapa Buddha. The Indra who, when the king was inferior to him, thought, "I will arise from this place, and I will rule the kingdom," is the Buddha Kashyapa. Generating malice towards a being said to be very powerful, he declined from wealth and came to Jambudvipa, afflicted by severe illness, experiencing unbearable feelings close to death. At that time, the one inferior to me was the Bhagavan himself. The cause for the one inferior to me obtaining kingship over the four continents and the realm of the gods is that in the past, when the Tathagata Vipashyin appeared in the world, while begging for alms in the palace of the king's relatives, a grain merchant saw that Buddha and, not being satisfied with seeing him, grabbed a handful of green beans and scattered them. Four beans fell into the bowl, one struck the edge of the bowl, and one landed on the crown of his head, thus obtaining the result of experiencing joy and enjoyment in the four continents and the realm of the gods for a long time. The rain of gold and other precious things that fell for seven days in his palace was because when the Tathagata All-Conqueror appeared in the world, the son of a merchant, who had married not long before, was living there. According to the custom of that country, not long after the wedding, the bride would be sent back to the husband's house with a dowry, and that bride was adorned with flowers made of four kinds of jewels and sent back to the husband's house, and he also took her back to his own home. The son of the merchant, holding flowers made of jewels, rode on a mount, and on the way home, he saw that Buddha himself was wandering and passing by. Seeing that the signs of the great being were glorious and not being satisfied with seeing them, with a heart filled with faith, he dismounted from his mount and scattered those flowers made of jewels upon that Buddha. The miraculous power of that Buddha
