All who have looked down upon you with contempt have repented. From now on, I will be your friend, and this land will no longer be impoverished by your virtues, so praised and disappeared. Also, in the past, when the Bodhisattva was transformed into a charred bird chick in a great forest, when the forest was burned by the fire produced by rubbing two pieces of wood, he generated compassion. He moistened his wings with water and sat on the great fire, flapping his wings, saying: Here there are birds that cannot fly, fire, do not move! By the truth of meditating on loving-kindness, fire, stop! So he said, and Indra became his friend and sent down a great rain, and the fire was completely extinguished. Also, in the past, the Blessed One himself was born into a great merchant family of noble and virtuous lineage, respectful, skilled, wealthy, and revered by the king like a jewel. When the great being went to the king's palace, the mother-in-law of that son-in-law, the mother of the wife, came to the merchant's house to meet her daughter, and when she was entertained and talked, the mother asked: Daughter, does your husband love you? Do you respect him, and does he repay your kindness? Is there no unhappiness? The daughter, ashamed, said humbly: Such discipline, virtue, and conduct as his, even monks do not have. The mother was old and hard of hearing, and the daughter's voice was small, so she did not hear well, but only heard the sound of "ordained," thinking: My daughter's husband must be ordained. Therefore, she wept sorrowfully for her daughter. Like this, I have also lost my dear daughter, and what is the discipline, virtue, and conduct of that ordained one like? Young and become an important figure of the king, without conflict with family and without illness, without compassion, like this abandoning wealth and family, how did the thought of ordaining in the monastery arise? As she lamented, the daughter also became unstable due to her nature as a woman, saying: My husband is ordained.

Thinking that his mother would be so unhappy, his mind was disturbed, and he even forgot the rest of the conversation. Hearing the sound of renunciation, he thought that his mother had come to dispel her sorrow, and he wept and fainted. When all the people in the house heard this, they began to weep. Neighbors, friends, Brahmins, householders, and people from the palace court, most of whom were attached to the householder, gathered at his house. When all of them were equally distressed, the Bodhisattva went near the house, heard the sound of lamentation, and seeing many people gathered, sent a servant to investigate what had happened. The servant then reported what had happened. Then, the Bodhisattva, whose mind was naturally pure, as if spurred on by those words, felt ashamed and displeased, and thought, "Emaho! It is good that people have such expectations." Hearing people praising and extolling him, he thought, "If I cling to home, I am not even fit to be a human being. I still abandon merit and believe in faults. Having abandoned virtue, what is the point of my living? Therefore, people expect this, I should leave home and practice virtue in a place of asceticism." So, he returned, reported to the king's attendant, and then went to the king. The king asked him why he had come. He said, "O God, I wish to renounce, please allow me." The king said with loving words, "Why do you go to the end when you have such relatives and excellent friends like me? If you want wealth, get it from me. If there is harm, I will avert it. What do you not want from our entreaties, me and your relatives, that you leave?" He said, "Relying on you, where would there be any harm? I am not lacking in wealth either. I am not going to the end because of poverty. But because the people are weeping, afflicted with sorrow, and proclaiming that I have renounced. I am in a moment of thinking of myself as virtuous, therefore I am going to a solitary place." The king said, "You should not abandon us merely because of the words of the people. Someone like you, full of virtue..."

Furthermore, it is not enough to merely keep the words of the people, and there is nothing wrong with not doing those things. If the false words of the world, those arbitrary speculations, are kept in mind and become ridicule, then there is no need to mention those who do those things. The Bodhisattva said: Great King, please do not say that. We should not do that even for the good deeds that are praised by the people. As the king of gods and humans, being famous for possessing the Dharma, one should not be damaged by this, and one should work hard for this in order to avoid shame. If one is famous for having merits and is expected to do so, no matter what the situation, as long as you allow it, the good name will spread as it is. Otherwise, fame will be meaningless, like a dry well, and the name of merit will not grow. It is difficult for people to regain their fame after losing it. Like a nest of poisonous snakes, for a family dwelling that has become a source of contention, it should be abandoned, and since it is to be abandoned, no one should stop me. You are a loving and respectful subject, and it is reasonable to say that. But I have decided to renounce, so what is the use of worldly affairs? After speaking, the king allowed him, and he prepared to go to the forest of asceticism. After that, his friends, relatives, and those who depended on him gathered, weeping and grabbing his feet, not letting him leave. They used all kinds of soft and hard words, saying that there were still unfinished things, and whether the family members were pitiful, etc., said a lot, and blocked the road, trying to make him return. To this, he said: Friends, if I am indulging in carelessness and engaging in evil deeds, you should try to stop me in every way. But I am alive and want to live in the forest, why do you stop me and cry? If you do not want to be separated from me, then come with me.
