When the son of Nāga (Tibetan) was named Kāśīmedataba (Tibetan), he, through the power of wisdom accustomed to previous lives, even in his youth, was not moved by desires such as female beauty, viewed the kingship as a fault, abandoned the position of crown prince, and lived in the forest meditating. Once, he arose from meditation and wandered in the garden of the forest, he saw a Kinnara woman with supremely beautiful qualities. That Kinnara woman also saw him, was attracted by his handsome appearance, and stepped forward saying, "My friend, a Kinnara woman, whose beauty and the advantages of youth even make the gods feel ashamed, after seeing you, has been constantly immersed in the pain of love, so she sent me to you. You should make her happy." The Bodhisattva said, "Is that Kinnara woman younger than you? Or not as good as you?" The Bodhisattva said, "In this way, age changes in an instant, you will also age, let alone that Kinnara woman? Listen to me. The body is an impure machine, attachment to it causes various kinds of suffering." And so on, by showing these reasons, extinguished the fire of her desire and began to meditate. The Bodhisattva returned to his hut. In this way, even the extremely beautiful Kinnara woman did not shake his asceticism. Later, when the Bhagavan became a Buddha, a dancer named Utpala danced and sang in front of the Bhagavan, and the Teacher, by teaching the Dharma, eliminated her pride in youth and caused her to attain the fruit of Arhat. Again, in a previous life, the Bhagavan himself was born into the Brahmin caste, mastered all the treatises, diligently engaged in fire offerings and other activities, and was respected by all. He saw the faults of the household, and so went to the forest of asceticism. With the power of loving-kindness, he caused four friends, a snake, a pigeon, a crow, and a deer, to gather before him and sit like disciples. Then, the deer said, "Great sage, free from fear...

I have not seen a greater suffering! The crow said: I have not seen a suffering greater than hunger, please tell me a way to be saved from this. The black snake said: The fire of anger burns both oneself and others, please tell me what is the way to pacify this? The pigeon said: The suffering caused by the fire of desire, whether it is the moon or cool water, etc., cannot be extinguished, this is a great suffering! Please tell me what is the way to not be overwhelmed by it? To this, the Bodhisattva said: The root of these four sufferings is ignorance, and when ignorance ceases, then from action etc. to all the aggregates of suffering will cease. They said: How will this life, which has the root of suffering, be cut off? He said: If you want peace, you should abandon killing, stealing, non-chaste conduct and lying, etc., and subdue the senses, then you will be able to uproot the tree of growth. To this, everyone said "Good!", and then each returned to their own abode, and according to the teachings of the sage Shakyamuni, they lived with the asceticism of not harming sentient beings, etc. After those beings died, they obtained human bodies and attained the state of peace. The true words of those who possess discipline and abide in the Dharma are accomplished. In the past, the Blessed One himself was proficient in the movement of stars and the measurement of directions, as well as sudden omens and signs, the distinction between seasons and non-seasons, the measurement of the ocean such as the color of fish and water, the distinction of land, and the signs of birds and wild animals, and also proficient in the measurement of the ocean's directions. Not lazy, little sleep, possessing mindfulness and awareness, able to endure the suffering of heat and cold, etc., cautious and stable, proficient in the methods of righting and capsizing ships, enabling the merchants of the ocean to reach their desired destination. When he took birth as the one named "Well Able to Cross to the Other Shore", because of auspiciousness, accomplishment, and perfection, the merchants greatly respected him, and only after requesting him did they set sail. Once, a merchant from the place of Bhatukaccha wanted to go to the Golden Island and accomplish his wish, so he requested him to be the captain. He said: I am old and cannot
