Prayers! For all those monks, temples were constructed with the jewels of seven precious substances. Above, a canopy of precious nets was hung. To the left and right, it was adorned with trees of flowers. It was beautified with ponds of white lotuses. Hundreds of thousands of immaculate silk cushions were laid out. Whatever flawless robes were given to each monk were not given again the next day. Like that, different robes were given each day. For thirty million years, they abandoned drowsiness and sleep. Apart from worshipping the Buddha, they abandoned other thoughts. At that time, no thoughts of desire, malice, or harm arose. There was no joy in kingship, and they did not even look at their bodies and lives, let alone other things. In such a way, they served with reverence. During those times, whatever the Bhagavan said, they grasped it in one go and did not ask a second time. In between, they did not bathe or wash their bodies, and they did not generate the feeling of fatigue. Except for eating and defecating, they never sat down. When that Tathagata passed into nirvana, after cremating the relics in a pyre of red sandalwood, they made offerings of flowers, incense, garlands, and music from Jambudvipa to the relics for a hundred thousand years. Later, they built eighty-four crore stupas. Those stupas were covered with nets of seven precious substances, and pearl canopies were hung. For each stupa, they offered five hundred umbrellas of seven precious substances. They also offered hundreds of thousands of cymbals and hundreds of thousands of butter lamps, as well as a thousand butter lamps made with sixty-four kinds of incense, and offerings of all kinds of incense, garlands, and unguents. They created trees of flowers in the surrounding areas, and such offerings continued for a million years. After that, they renounced and became monks with the three Dharma robes, always practicing alms-begging, always squatting, never lowering their knees, and never being overcome by drowsiness and sleep. Then, with a mind free from distraction, they gave Dharma teachings for forty million years. Therefore, they did not even hope for a single word of "better than others," let alone gain and respect.

Without tiring of teaching or listening to the Dharma, the gods also made offerings to him. All the people of the country, the entire retinue of the queen, and all the friends also renounced and went forth after him. There, the gods of the Pure Abodes, thinking that if they made offerings to those who had renounced and gone forth after Sonam Ozer, it would be the same as making offerings to the Three Jewels, made offerings to them. Even after that Tathagata had passed into complete nirvana, the monk Sonam Ozer upheld the sacred Dharma for sixty-four billion years. In this way, he made offerings in that manner to ninety-four billion trillion kotis of Buddhas. Thus, Prince Sonam Ozer was the Blessed One Buddha himself, King Ozerden was the Buddha Amitabha, and the city god was the Tathagata Akshobhya. Thus it was said. Prince Sonam Ozer, in this way, a Bodhisattva, desiring unsurpassed perfect enlightenment, with a superior intention, should completely abandon what is pleasing and displeasing, and be mindful. Furthermore, in the past, in a dense forest in the land of Kashi (modern Varanasi, India), a partridge, a rabbit, a monkey, and an elephant lived together. They cherished each other, lived harmoniously without disputes, and spent their time happily. Once, they discussed and wanted to know who was the eldest among them to be revered, so they asked and pointed to a banyan tree that was there. The partridge said: Wise ones, how big have you seen this tree before? The elephant said: When we walk on this path, we have seen it growing to be about the size of my body. The monkey said: When I went with my troop, this tree was about the size of my body when it grew. They said the elephant is older than you. The rabbit said: When I saw two leaves growing on this tree, I licked the dew that was attached to them with my tongue. They said you are even older than this. The partridge said: You see the appearance of a big tree. I ate the seeds and dropped my droppings in this direction, and this tree grew from that. They...
