For the enjoyment of the youth, in a certain place, there was a city called "Joyful Peak." It had seven hundred streets in the north-south direction. It was adorned with ornaments such as bells made of the seven precious substances, golden nets, pearl and jewel canopies and nets, and a thousand jeweled trees were planted, connected by six jeweled threads, and connected by billions of Tala tree garlands. There, five hundred women were arranged to perform songs, dances, and music, and it was called "Youthful Joy." On all the streets, vehicles, clothes, food, and other desired items were extensively arranged and placed. There was a jeweled palace about one yojana in size, decorated with a hundred horse-landing platforms, and inside it, forty million youth beds were arranged. Having gathered all those who were twenty years old, they placed them in that palace. Eighty billion who knew crafts, work, worldly pleasures, and affairs were placed there. Both parents gave that prince a billion daughters, gatherings of relatives gave a billion, townspeople gave a billion, and all the other kings also gave a billion daughters. All of them were beautiful and fair, pleasing to behold. All of them were sixteen years old, skilled in song and dance, adept at going to men, smiling faces, graceful manners, having reached the far shore of all arts, endowed with all qualities, emitting the fragrance of lotus flowers, radiant like goddesses. Among them, although Prince Fortune Light resided there, he thought, "One should not look at these places of enjoyment and songs and dances, for they cause my great assembly of non-friends, namely the Dharma, to completely decline, leading to downfall." For example, just as a person about to be executed does not feel amazed upon seeing the executioner, so too, upon seeing objects of desire such as women, he does not regard them as amazing. During those ten years, he did not even grasp the characteristics of form, sound, and so forth, except to think, "When will I be liberated from this assembly of non-friends and live a life of mindfulness?" Then, those girls said to King Light, "The young god does not enjoy himself, nor is he pleased." King Light, together with eighty thousand kings, went to where Prince Fortune Light was, and with tears streaming down his face, he wept and fell to the ground, and then stood up and said, "Son, I grieve for you, why are you not happy? Tell me, and I will punish him with a great punishment." For your sake, is there anything lacking in this palace, which is as delightful as a celestial abode? Tell me. Look at the wealth like Indra, and look at the assembly like goddesses, do not be sad, and play with them." And so forth, he spoke this meaning in verses. Having seen the faults of existence, and thereby becoming disgusted with desire, he said: Looking at these beings caught in the net of samsara, he said to the one seeking liberation: Father, please listen! No god has made me unhappy. I do not desire such qualities of desire.
