He caused rain to fall, and easily freed them from the nomadic monasteries, and so on. In the past, when the Bodhisattva was alive, he gave relief to sentient beings who were frightened by various kinds of poverty, and made them fearless. The things he did could not be measured by numbers. Here, only a few aspects from the sutras are discussed. This is the story of giving. In the past, before countless eons had passed, there was an eon called Manifest Joy, in which there was a world called the Land of Bliss, where the Bhagavan named Mount Meru appeared. At that time, a Chakravartin king named Excellent Arrangement had a thousand sons. At that time, the lifespan of sentient beings was seven hundred billion years. The king, with his thousand sons and consorts, offered all kinds of offerings to that Buddha, listened to the Dharma, and generated the unsurpassed perfect Bodhicitta, and obtained the subsequent forbearance. The Dharma speaker, Dharma Banner, also generated Bodhicitta and praised the virtues of ordination. King Excellent Arrangement was weary of the joys of the world and the kingdom, and wanted to be ordained, and the Tathagata also granted him permission. The king said to his thousand sons: Which of you is willing to rule the kingdom and make sentient beings embrace the Dharma? They all said: We have also been ordained out of faith, please do not abandon us. The king said: If all of you are ordained, then all the beings in the four continents of the world will be wasted. Among you, whoever does not look to his own interests, but has great compassion for sentient beings, should rule the kingdom and make sentient beings rightly embrace the Dharma. Among those youths, there was a prince named Great Compassionate Mind, who said to his father and elders: Although the Tathagatas have said that ordination can accumulate immeasurable merits, even so, because I have compassion, I will rule the kingdom for the benefit of sentient beings. As long as I live, I will practice celibacy and observe the eight precepts. And so on.

After the verses were spoken, everyone praised and extolled them, and he was placed on the throne. The king and his sons, lacking only one to make a thousand, all renounced the world and developed the five clairvoyances, dharanis, and knowledge of the Dharma. The young prince, Great Compassionate Mind, also on the tenth day of each month, manifested and subsequently taught the Dharma in those four great continents, causing nine hundred and twenty million sentient beings to generate the mind of unsurpassed perfect enlightenment. All of them renounced the world under that Tathagata and became irreversible. The king of that time, Good Arrangement, was the son of the merchant leader of the gods, the Dharma speaker Dharma Banner was Manjushri Youth, and the thousand sons were the thousand Buddhas of this fortunate eon. Among them, the Bodhisattva Great Compassionate Mind is none other than this Bhagavan. Again, in the past, countless eons ago, when the Tathagata Meaningful Accomplishment Wisdom appeared in the world, at a time when the lifespan of sentient beings was ten billion years, there was a king named Radiant Light who ruled over a land of sixty thousand yojanas in Jambudvipa. His palace was called Jewel Light, made of the seven precious substances, and his wealth was extremely vast. His son, Prince Merit Light, was handsome and pleasing to the eye. As soon as he was born, thousands of treasures of the seven precious substances appeared, and in the king's palace, there appeared about ten people's worth of treasures of the seven precious substances. As soon as he was born, all the people of Jambudvipa rejoiced, and the prisoners were released from prison. The prince became skilled in all worldly arts. The gods of the Pure Abodes, at midnight, spoke to him verses of mindful words, impermanence, the faults of desire, and seeking supreme enlightenment. He kept them in mind, and for ten years, without looking at sleep, drowsiness, playfulness, or objects of joy, he dwelled alone thinking. Contemplating the faults of samsara without compassion, he remained alone without speaking. His father, the king,
