Since nothing can be done, the sprouts of newly cut grass cannot be given as alms. Therefore, if a guest arrives, I think of hosting them with my own body. The gods proclaimed the wonder of this, and Indra heard it. He transformed into a hungry Brahmin, lost his way, and was exhausted by the hot sun, crying out in a miserable voice. The rabbit comforted him. Among his students, on the first day, the otter found seven fish corpses and used them to host the guest. The next day, the jackal found a dung ball and a yogurt that someone else had discarded and used them to sustain the guest. Then the monkey gave ripe mango fruits separately as alms. After that, the rabbit began to give his own body as alms. Indra transformed into a pile of fire, and the rabbit, seeing the fire, was very happy and jumped into the fire like a swan entering a lotus pond. Indra restored his own form, praised him, and lifted the rabbit with his own hands, showing him to the thirty-three (Trayastriṃśat, thirty-three) gods and praising him. The Victory Mansion (Khang bzang rnam par rgyal ba), the assembly hall of Good Fortune (འདུན་ས་ཚེས་བཟང་གི་ཁང་བརྩེགས་), and the image of the rabbit on the lunar disc are still clearly visible today. Furthermore, in a previous life, when the Blessed One was born as the wild animal Kuntara, a hunter was sent to find him because he desired his golden fur. The hunter was starving and exhausted, and the animal saved him, feeding him with fruits and water from the trees. Seeing that the hunter was unhappy, he asked him the reason. The hunter said, "I have come for your fur." The animal happily said, "Please skin me and take my fur." The hunter took the fur, and the bees and other creatures that ate his flesh were all reborn in the heavens. Furthermore, when he was reborn as a turtle, he placed five hundred merchants whose ships had sunk in the sea on his back and safely crossed the ocean. When the turtle fell asleep, eighty thousand Kitaka worms came and ate his body. When he woke up, he was afraid of harming those animals, so he did not move and allowed them to eat him. He prayed for unsurpassed enlightenment and then passed away. Furthermore, in the past, in a hole, an animal became a loving dung beetle. A hunter skinned his hide.

Also, he gave away his body. Because he felt very unwell, he lay down by a cool riverbank, where he was eaten by eighty thousand ants from an anthill. He could have escaped, but he thought that if he did, so many beings would suffer, so he decided not to move, allowing the ants to eat all his flesh, and he made aspirations for unsurpassed enlightenment. Furthermore, there was a young naga named Champaka, who had good faith and a kind heart. He observed the fasts on the eighth and fourteenth days of the month, and then in another place, he transformed into a huge body, and without regard for his body, he gave it away. That year, there was a famine, and many cowherds and others cut and ate the naga's flesh, and many were satisfied by their share. Furthermore, when he was reborn as a prince named Gewa Dön, he fled a long way in fear of the army led by the minister Rahu. Because of a lack of food, he gave his body to his parents, as it says in the sutra 'The Way of Liberation from the Monastery, Acknowledging Kindness.' Furthermore, there was a prince named Metok, who was beautiful and possessed great royal wealth. He was afflicted with leprosy, and he dug out his own foot and smeared it on his body, and as a result, the disease was cured. Like this, in the past, the Bhagavan gave away eyes, blood, hands, feet, and so on for the sake of attaining unsurpassed enlightenment, which is impossible to count or measure. Just as the great ocean is completely filled with water, and the dust of Mount Meru can be measured, the number of eyes and so on given away by the bodhisattva cannot be measured, as it says in the sutra. Furthermore, in the "Request of Gangpo," in a previous life, when the Bhagavan became a bodhisattva, he went alone without companions and was killed by wild animals. As he was dying, he knew that those wild animals had killed and devoured many beings, but were still not satisfied, so he made the aspiration: 'May I be reborn as a large animal, and may those cruel wild animals kill me and be satisfied.' Just as he wished, he was reborn as a large animal and satisfied all the wild animals. Likewise, in hundreds of thousands of millions of lifetimes, he took bodies to benefit sentient beings. For a kalpa or more, when he practiced the conduct of a bodhisattva, he told of those who satisfied hungry and thirsty sentient beings with his own flesh and blood.
