He hid all his possessions, leaving only a rope and a sickle. Seeing this situation, although he had no other enjoyments, he satisfied the poor with the money he earned daily by selling grass with the rope and sickle. Then, Indra, seeing that even though he had become very poor, he was not discouraged and enjoyed giving, revealed his own body and said, 'Householder, you are very brave in giving. Do not be so attached to giving, and you will gain wealth.' He said, 'Although I am very poor, I cannot do base deeds. If a mind of stinginess arises, even though I do not have those possessions, seeing the suffering of beggars, I cannot say that I have nothing.' Indra said, 'Householder, it is wrong for you to desire to give to others without having achieved your own wealth and perfect self-interest. Stop giving for a while and accumulate wealth. It is unreasonable to give without wealth.' He said, 'If I want my own benefit, I should abandon wealth and give. Wealth cannot achieve heavens, etc., but giving can. How can I indifferently enjoy my own happiness in the face of the suffering of others?' and so on. Seeing that his mind could not be changed, Indra was pleased and said, 'All your possessions have been hidden by me. I have been protecting them, and your possessions will not be exhausted. Continue to give.' He asked him to be patient, and then disappeared. Moreover, in a previous life, a princess named "Thubpa" (Enduring), during the time of the Buddha Ratnachuda, offered lamps and was prophesied to become a Buddha. When she became a Buddha, many lamps were also offered to her. As exemplified by these stories, the ways in which offerings were made to numerous Buddhas are described in texts such as the Hundred Deeds Sutra (Avadana-shataka). Furthermore, as extensively stated in the sutras, countless Buddhas were venerated with immeasurable means of comfort and happiness. Again, when he was born as the householder "Dums-byed" (Conciliator), he provided food and drink for twelve years to two thousand hermits during a famine. Again, when he was born as the householder "Gzung-byed" (Holder of Mantras), he provided sustenance for twelve years to a thousand Pratyekabuddhas during a famine.

After connecting. King Pūrṇa-varman spread golden carpets and hosted a feast for eighty hundred thousand Brahmins for ten million years, offering delicious foods that cured various diseases from golden vessels, and performed great sacrifices. Furthermore, when he became the lord of Kosala, he remembered that in a previous life as a hired laborer, he had offered a portion of warm porridge to the fourfold Sangha, and now he had obtained great royal wealth. He recited verses explaining that this was merely the sprout of that previous act of giving, and he extensively performed acts of generosity and other virtuous deeds, as recorded in the thirty-fourth Jataka. When he was reborn as the youth Sudhana, for the sake of the captivating daughter of a Kinnara maiden, he went with great effort to the abode of the Kinnara king, brought back the captivating daughter, and performed continuous sacrifices for twelve years, etc. The stories of the Bodhisattva's generosity are countless, and here only a small portion of what is recorded in the Sutras is mentioned. Moreover, it is stated in the Sutra: When Bodhisattvas practiced in the past, they did not even cling to their own bodies, let alone wealth. They had no thought of "This is mine" regarding objects of enjoyment. These things are shared with all sentient beings. Just as I have a share, all sentient beings also have a share. Even when approaching the Dharma of the Buddhas, they do not think that they have a share. They think that these enjoyments belong to all sentient beings, and that they themselves have no share at all. They only think in this way. Even if they obtain the opportunity to approach the Dharma of the Buddhas, they do not cling to it. They do not completely collect and acquire, and therefore do not accept. They incline towards the Dharma of emptiness and the Dharma of peace. They do not accept, nor do they incline towards the Dharma of things and the Dharma of inherent existence. Thus it is said. Furthermore, in the past, King Śuddhodana-lagna, who ruled over eighty-four thousand small kingdoms. At that time, no rain fell in Jambudvipa, and there was a famine for twelve years, causing most people to die. The king made a vow and abandoned his body from a cliff. Afterwards, he was miraculously born as a great fish with a body five hundred yojanas long.

Furthermore, that fish said in human language, "If you are hungry, take my flesh." So the people all cut and ate the flesh, and the flesh grew back again, and it was not exhausted for twelve years, and it satisfied everyone. All who ate the flesh were reborn in the heavens. Again, in the past there was a king named Open Eye, who ruled over eighty-four thousand small kingdoms. He gave away all his treasures, and ordered all the small kingdoms to give alms as well. At that time, in order to bring a border kingdom that did not obey orders under his rule, a minister named Lodar began to wage war. That small kingdom was afraid, so it sent a blind man under its rule to ask for one eye, and the king gave him an eye, and put the eye into the eye of that blind Brahmin, and immediately recited a prayer of truthful words, and the blind man immediately saw. The Brahmin was happy and said, "One eye is enough, I don't need the other." The king said, "I will give you both of my eyes." After saying this, he gave him one eye, and after reciting the prayer, both of the Brahmin's eyes could see. Indra asked and tested him, and the king stated the power of truth, and the king's eyes were restored to their original state, and he gave jewels to that Brahmin and sent him back. When that small kingdom asked him what had happened, the Brahmin told the story, and when that small kingdom heard it, his heart broke and he died. Again, when the king was reborn as Sonam Tob, the king himself provided service and medical treatment to all the sick people, freeing them from all diseases, and asked the god Indra for one blind eye, and the king gave him both of his eyes, and again he recovered as before by the power of truth. Again, in the past, in a certain monastery, when he was reborn as a rabbit, he lived in harmony with many animals such as otters, jackals, monkeys, and their disciples, and the fame of this event spread to the heavens. On the fifteenth of each month, he and his retinue would fast and say, "If food found by reason is available, it can be used to entertain unexpected guests." Everyone listened to him. After that, the rabbit thought, if unexpected guests come, they can use anything to entertain them, but I
