Ro. Thus, the Buddhas are inconceivable. The Buddhas' teachings are also inconceivable. If one has faith in the inconceivable, then its ripening is also inconceivable. And so on. For example, the merit generated towards the Buddha is not wasted. Like the analogy of a tiny drop of water falling into the ocean and not being exhausted, even just generating a single thought directed towards the Buddha is never wasted. Even though those sentient beings may have fallen into the lower realms and evil paths due to past karma, the root of virtue that was previously generated towards the Buddha, when the Buddhas appear in the world, they see them and liberate them from falling into wrongdoing. They cause them to remember the root of virtue and attain nirvana. Furthermore, Ananda, even if I, like myself, do even the smallest amount of virtue, it is not wasted. The result of all those roots of virtue from generating a single thought is nirvana. Ultimately, I speak of nirvana. Thus it is said. For example, like a fish caught in mucus, even though it is in the water, it will surely be taken out and placed on dry land. Likewise, those who generate virtue towards the Buddha, even though they are born in a state of falling into wrongdoing due to past faults, that root of virtue, when the Buddhas appear in the world, they see it with unobstructed wisdom, and they rescue them from that state of falling into wrongdoing and place them in the fruit of liberation. If sentient beings, even those who are attached to samsara due to offering to the Buddha and so on, do not aspire to nirvana, there is no place for them not to attain nirvana. Because the Buddha, the Bhagavan himself, is the supreme field. Just as when planting crops in a good field, even if one says, "Seed, do not sprout," it will still sprout. This is spoken as an example. In the future, there will be evil-doing kings and barbarians. Even if the various kinds of people belonging to them do not know the Buddha's teachings and the Buddha's qualities, when they see the stupas and images of the Tathagata and their minds become clear, they will find that clear mind because of the connection from being gathered by the Buddha in the past through the four objects of gathering. The fruit of that root of virtue of the clear mind

It is said that one will attain Nirvana. When the Tathagata practiced the conduct of a Bodhisattva in the past, he made offerings to immeasurable Tathagatas, relied on virtuous spiritual friends, and acted according to their teachings. He gathered sentient beings through the objects of gathering, and through the power of perfecting countless inconceivable roots of virtue, he attained a Vajra-like, indestructible body. Even if Mount Sumeru, the king of mountains, and the great surrounding mountains were to become as solid as Vajra, they could not harm or pluck even a single hair from the head of the fully passed away Tathagata. However, due to the Tathagata's compassion for sentient beings and the power of past aspirations, he blessed the relics to be as small as mustard seeds. These relics accomplish the benefit of those sentient beings who are to be tamed. Moreover, those who venerate and respect those relics will also attain the fruit of Nirvana. Furthermore, what need is there to mention venerating the Buddha who is actually present and making offerings to the relics! If someone even sees a stupa of the Tathagata in a dream and their mind is filled with joy, that root of virtue will also lead to the ultimate attainment of Nirvana. Moreover, offering to the Buddha is inexhaustible and without limit. If one throws a single flower into the sky with a mind focused on the Buddha, that root of virtue cannot be easily measured or shown even by the Buddha's wisdom. If one were to make a complete examination, even if that sentient being were to wander and transmigrate in samsara for as many beginningless eons as there are, it would not be easy for the ripening of that root of virtue to be fulfilled by the sovereignty of Brahma, Indra, or a Universal Monarch. However, through the manner of inclining towards Nirvana and ultimately attaining Nirvana, a son or daughter of good family who desires to obtain the position of a Universal Monarch, Brahma, Indra, the Four Great Kings, or the lordship of all the worlds, such as gods, nagas, and yakshas, or who desires to obtain the state of a Hearer, a Solitary Buddha, or unsurpassed Bodhi, should venerate, serve, and make offerings to the Buddha, the Bhagavan. Thus it is said.
