Therefore, I proclaim nirvana. If this trichiliocosm were filled with Stream-enterers, Once-returners, Non-returners, and Arhats, as dense as a field of rice. If any son or daughter of good family, for a kalpa or more than a kalpa, with reverence and service, were to honor them with all things of comfort, the merit of that would not equal one hundred thousand kotis part of the merit of folding one's palms once to the Tathagata and saying once, 'I prostrate to the Tathagata,' even to the point of being uncountable. Moreover, even if the trichiliocosm were filled with Arhats, let alone that, even if it were filled with Solitary Buddhas, and one were to honor them as before, and build stupas of seven precious jewels for those Solitary Buddhas who have passed into nirvana, and offer and revere them for as long as they live with various offerings such as flowers, incense, and garlands. This is still not as superior as merely generating faith in the Buddha, recollecting with a pure mind, and saying with faith in the qualities of the Buddha, 'The wisdom of the Tathagatas is inconceivable,' to the point that it cannot be measured by example or reason. Thus, the Buddhas, the Bhagavat, with immeasurable qualities such as love, compassion, and discipline, the ripening of faith in the inconceivable wisdom of the Buddha is also inconceivable. Furthermore, any sentient beings who hear the teachings of the Buddha, or hear the sound of the name, for them, it will not be meaningless until complete nirvana. In the past, many merchants went to sea together, and in the middle of the sea, the ship was seized by makara fish, and those merchants were terrified, uttering various cries, and prostrating and praying to various gods. At that time, a skilled captain who had faith in the Three Jewels and did not take refuge in other gods, comforted those merchants, saying respectfully: With a mind focused on the Buddha, together with these merchants, prostrate to the Buddhas, and a great sound arose.

After that, the sound was heard by the crocodile, and it became happy and had no intention of harming, so it closed its mouth again, and the merchants safely and successfully reached Jambudvipa (the human world). That crocodile also felt happy after hearing the sound of the Buddha, and after that, it did not devour life. Immediately after its death, it was reborn as a human, and it developed faith in the Dharma and Vinaya spoken by the Tathagata. It renounced the world and practiced, relied on and served virtuous friends, attained the Arhatship, attained the six superknowledges, and finally entered into Nirvana in the realm of no remainder. Thus, having been born as an animal, by hearing the sound of the Buddha, it was reborn as a human and obtained the fruit of Nirvana. Thus, hearing and reciting the names of the Buddhas, the Bhagavat, has such great power and miraculous abilities. Thus, hearing the names of the Buddhas and other roots of virtue, also due to the wishes of their own minds, for some, it becomes the cause of attaining the Bodhi of a Shravaka or Pratyekabuddha, and for some, it becomes the cause of completely perfecting the unsurpassed great Bodhi. It is also said: "Ananda, I am the protector of wasted beings, the protector, the friend." and so on. It is also said: "I am the teacher of the world, including the gods, the tamer, and have compassion for all sentient beings." Why is that? Ananda, in the future degenerate age, when the Holy Dharma declines, those who will renounce in this my teaching, after renouncing, holding the hand of a child, wandering with the child in a tavern for a cup of wine, all those who follow this my Holy Dharma, Ananda, will completely attain Nirvana in this fortunate Kalpa. Just like those who disguise themselves as practitioners and behave badly, they can also attain Nirvana in the Buddha's teachings of this fortunate Kalpa, and not even one Bhikshu will be left. Why is that? Because, thus the Tathagata realizes and follows the realization of the Dharmadhatu, even if only one thought of pure mind arises, or even if only one says 'I prostrate', in the end, Nirvana will be attained.
