If you go there, you will know this great vidyā-mantra." Having said this, he went and prostrated to that Buddha, folded his palms, and merely remembering the name of the great six-syllable vidyā-mantra would purify all sins. He was seeking the bodhisattva's difficult-to-obtain hearing, but even after going to many worlds, he had not obtained it. After saying this, that Tathāgata extensively praised that great vidyā-mantra. "Son of good family, I also went to countless billions of hundreds of thousands of worlds, and in the presence of the Tathāgata Amitābha, I folded my palms and shed tears with the power of the Dharma. That Tathāgata said to Avalokiteśvara, 'Son of good family, look, the Tathāgata Padmottama went to countless billions of hundreds of thousands of worlds for the sake of the great six-syllable vidyā-mantra. Son of good family, request the queen of vidyā-mantras, the six syllables.' While becoming a Tathāgata, he also went everywhere. Then, the bodhisattva Avalokiteśvara, with the ritual of the mandala, gave the king of vidyā-mantras, the six syllables, to the Buddha Padmottama, and the great earth, together with the ocean, shook, and all the obstructors and yakshas fled. The Buddha Padmottama stretched out his hand like an elephant's trunk and offered hundreds of thousands of strings of pearls to Avalokiteśvara. He also took them and offered them to the Buddha Amitābha. He also took them and offered them back to the Buddha Padmottama. Then, after the Tathāgata Padmottama obtained the six-syllable vidyā-mantra, he went to the lotus world. Son of good family, in this way, in the past, I heard this vidyā-mantra from the Tathāgata Padmottama.'" Thus he spoke. Then, Sarvanivāraṇaviṣkambhin asked, "Bhagavan, where should I go to obtain the six-syllable vidyā-mantra?" The Buddha replied, "Son of good family, in the great city of Jambudvīpa, there are Dharma speakers who hold the six-syllable vidyā-mantra. Those Dharma speakers who hold the six-syllable vidyā-mantra are rare. Those Dharma speakers should be regarded as equal to the Tathāgata."

Should be done. One should regard them as the shore and accumulation of merit for sentient beings. Similarly, one should regard them as those who speak truthfully and without distortion, like a heap of jewels, like a wish-fulfilling jewel that accomplishes good deeds, like a treasure of Dharma, like those who liberate sentient beings. Sons of good family, those Dharma speakers, even if their discipline is broken, their conduct is unrestrained, their behavior is undisciplined, surrounded by wives, sons, and daughters, even if their robes are filled with excrement and urine, one should not doubt upon seeing their actions. Because they have fallen from the bodhisattva grounds and are born in evil realms. As it is said, the bodhisattva who removes all obscurations, surrounded by hundreds of thousands of retinues, holding various offerings, goes to that world. He prostrates with his head at the feet of those Dharma speakers. Even if he sees that their discipline is broken, their conduct is unrestrained, their behavior is undisciplined, he offers umbrellas, ornaments, perfumes, and so on, and praises with folded hands: Alas! You who experience the treasure of Dharma, who have accumulated the treasure of nectar, as vast as the ocean, I cannot fathom you! And so on, he makes extensive praises. The Dharma speaker says: Son of good family, do not generate regret. Friend, afflictions are the practice of lust, the sign of samsara, and the generation of the wheel of beings. Whoever knows the six-syllable mantra will not be stained by desire, hatred, and ignorance, just as the gold of the Jambu River is not stained by impurities. Then, the Remover of All Obscurations grabs his feet: Please become the eyes for me, whose faculties have deteriorated! Please show the way to the guide! Please satisfy me, who is thirsty for Dharma, with the taste of Dharma! And so on, he requests the bestowal of the six-syllable mantra. The Dharma speaker says to him: The queen of the six-syllable mantra is a rare phrase, it is the vajra word, it is the indestructible vajra word, it is the supreme wisdom word, it is the inexhaustible wisdom word, it is the unsurpassed word. And so on, praises, and furthermore, even if one recites this a little, it is the scripture of the Great Vehicle.
